Searching for books

E-Books

1. SOLO is default to Oxford Collections tab for searching books and journalsYou can enter a combination of author and title keywords in search box.

2. Click Search

1. Click on this link to view all editions including online version.

Click tab “Online resource”. Use table of contents to find the chapter(s) you want to access

print books

1. Type keywords.Click Search.

1. Click Locations to view libraries that hold copies

2. Click Radcliffe Science Library to find if the book is available for borrowing.

3. Scroll down until you see Radcliffe Science Library listed.

Radcliffe Science Library holds multiple copies available on the shelf.Make a note of the shelfmark. Head to RSL level 2 to pick up a copy.Hand your copy to staff at the circulation desk on level 4 ( ground floor) or use the self-issue machine.

Searching for journal article -

using the article title

1. Click Journal Articles (beta) tab. 2. Enter title of an article.3. Click Search.

That’s the article! Click “Online resource”. Details of the article are already in the details box. Click Go

This is a HTML display of the article.To view the article like in the print journal, click Full Text (PDF)

This is the PDF version. You can print, save or attachto an email from File menu

using the journal title if the article title is not found with the Journal Articles (beta) tab

Two routes to find journals:you can enter journal title in the search boxOr click OU e-Journals. For now, let’s search in SOLO

2. Click Online resource to access the electronic version.

1. In SOLO you see records for the print and electronic versions.

This journal is available full text from volume 1.Enter details of the article ( year, volume, issue, start page) and click GO.You can also click GO without entering details of the article, and use the browse function on the publisher’s site. See next slide.

Find the article you want from the list of volumes.Publishers’ sites look different but they all have a volume index to browse.

Use the refine options to limit the search to journals. See next slide

Placing a reservation

You can place a reservation if all the loanable copies of RSL

are out of the library

1. In Oxford Collections tab for books and journals, enter title or keywords of the title/author.

2. Select the record that matches with the title you want.

Click Locations to view the list of libraries that hold copies.Click Radcliffe Science Library to see if a copy is available to borrow.

2. Click Hold Title to place a reservation

1. The only loanable copy is out. You can place a reservation.

Enter barcode of your university card. Password is your date of birth i.e. 17jul1979

Select Radcl. Science and click Commit Hold

Your reservation is recorded.

Renewing Books

Click OLIS.

Click Connect via the web.

Click Patron Functions.

1. Type barcode of your university card. Password is your date of birth i.e. 17jul1979

2. Click View Patron Record.

Click Item List.

Click Renew Items.
