Parishioners are catching on to the convenience of
online giving. Are you sometimes out-of-town visiting
family? Will you be attending another parish over the
holidays? Remember giving begins at home! Make it
simple to ensure you are intentionally financially
supporting your parish each week. It is a spiritually
healthy practice to start and make a habit. Open your
own online giving account today if you have not done
so. You will be glad you did. Questions? Call the
parish office.

"The Mass is the most favorable occasion to speak with the
eternal Father, because then we offer Him His only Son as
a victim for our salvation. Before celebrating, reflect on
the sufferings of your Redeemer, commune peaceably with
Him, even in the midst of dryness; carry to the altar the
needs of the entire world." St. Paul of the Cross

SEMINARIAN BIRTHDAY
Cathedral son, Mike Picard, will be celebrating his birthday
on October 21. It would be wonderful if many members of
our parish family sent him cards and/or care packages to let
him know of our prayers and support as he discerns his
vocation to the priesthood. His address is: Immaculate
Heart of Mary Seminary, 700 Terrace Heights #336,
Winona, MN 55987.
CATHEDRAL KEEPERS MEETING There will be a Cathedral Keepers Meeting on Tuesday,
November 5 and a repeat meeting on Thursday November 7
at 9:30 am in the Bishop Wycislo Center. We will be
reviewing safety precautions and how to handle guest
questions and needs. These issues are very important, so
Keepers must attend one of these meetings.
SUNDAY COFFEE & ROLLS There will be NO coffee and rolls on October 20th due to
the Diocesan Confirmation Mass at 11:30 am or on October
27th due to the Diocesan Crozier Mass at 11 am. There will
be coffee and rolls all Sundays in November.
LOVE LIFE October is Respect Life month. Bring diapers of all sizes,
new and gently used baby clothes, blankets, teethers, rattles,
baby bath, lotion, towels, washcloths and bottles to the
bassinet outside the BWC. Thank you for your continued
support of this important ministry for babies in need.
CLERGY & STAFF
RESERVED SPACES This is a reminder that the eight parking stalls located
between the Gehl Center and the back of the Cathedral are
reserved for staff, bishops, deacons and concelebrating
priests. Please respect these reserved spaces by not parking
here to allow clergy and staff to be able to park near the
church at all times. Thank you.
NEW SECURITY MEASURE In keeping the safety and welfare of our Cathedral Keepers,
staff and guests in mind, we will now have only the
handicap set of doors to the Bishop Wycislo Center open
after weekday morning Masses.
SMALL PRAYER GROUPS RETURN We are in the process of forming our “Small Prayer
Groups” once again. Formation of new group leaders will
begin this fall using Matthew Kelly’s “Rediscovering
Advent” series. New leaders will learn to organize a small
prayer group, and a mentor will be assigned to walk with
them. A copy of “Rediscovering Advent” is available now
in the parish office for our group leaders. The original
group leaders will meet on Tuesday, October 29, to discern
the type of prayer form they want to use. Leaders will be
calling to see if you would like to return to your original
group. Sign up for the spring of 2014 will be in December,
dates and times to be announced.
DID YOU KNOW……….?
Cathedral parishioner, Lucy Wilquet, launders and irons
all the altar linens every week. This very special task takes
hours each week and is one way that Lucy gives back to
her parish. Every Tuesday, Lucy comes into the parish
office to answer phone calls and assist people who come
to the door. Once a month she joins other parishioners and
counts the weekend collection money. Thank you, Lucy,
for all you do for the parish. Your help to our staff is
invaluable. May God bless you for all you do!
From Our Pastor
My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Sixth Commandment: “You Shall not Commit Adultery”
On one occasion when I was hearing confessions, a very young child of eight years or so confessed the
following, “I disobeyed my parents, I stole a cookie from the cookie jar, I pulled my sister’s
hair, and I committed adultery” Somewhat alarmed, I asked the child what exactly he meant by
“committing adultery”? The youth responded, “Oh, that means that I acted like an adult instead
of being a kid…” I was very much relieved!
Reflecting on this humorous story, we come to realize that the opposite is in fact true.
Those adults who commit adultery are in reality not acting like adults at all, but rather like
immature fools. The sin of adultery is marital infidelity – it is being unfaithful in marriage.
Adultery is the having of sexual relations between two individuals one of whom is married to
another person. Adultery is very widespread today in our culture. It destroys marriages,
children’s lives, and our society. It is a very serious sin which risks eternal damnation.
Marriage is a sacred commitment between one man and one woman. Regardless of
culture or religion, this sacred bond of marriage is to be permanent and inviolable. Between Christians, marriage
has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament – a sacred sign that points to the invisible
spiritual reality of the unity of Christ and His Church. Every marriage counts and marriage remains the very
building block of culture and society.
All Christians are called to chastity. Chastity is the successful integration of our own sexuality to our
vocation in life. In other words, married people are called to chastity, vowed religious are called to chastity, and
single people are also called to chastity. We all live out this chastity in different ways, but every offence against
chastity has traditionally been understood by the Church as falling under the Sixth Commandment. (Other sins
in this area will be covered by the Ninth Commandment.)
When a couple marries, they give themselves completely and totally to each other. They are no longer
two, but one body. Cheating or unfaithfulness in marriage strikes at the heart of this most intimate of unions.
Because of his or her own selfishness, the person who commits adultery causes serious injury to this union. The
innocent spouse is often left with the knowledge and the pain of being cheated on that will last a lifetime. The
tragedy of divorce regrettably often follows.
As Christians, we are called to forgive and to love our persecutors. Although practically humanly
impossible in the case of adultery, with God all things are possible including forgiveness. If you or a loved one
has fallen into the sin of adultery do not despair! Please speak with me and I will direct you to various resources
that are available to couples who are struggling. Your marriage can be saved, but both the victim of adultery and
the perpetrator of the sin must desire forgiveness and mercy.
For those of you who are married, avoid this sin! There is nothing more cruel than infidelity in marriage.
Remember your commitment, think of your children’s future, be aware of your own mortality. If you remain
faithful to your marriage in spite of temptation, you will be greatly rewarded.
May God Bless You.

EAGLE SCOUT PROJECT Hello, my name is Jordan Kieltyka. I am a member of St. Francis Xavier Cathedral and am working towards my
Eagle Scout Award. As a requirement for this prestigious award, I must plan, manage, and complete a service
project. The service project I chose is to do landscaping around the Gehl Center. For this project, I will be adding
low lying shrubbery, adding beautiful stone around the building, as well as installing a railing leading up to the
front door on Madison Street. But I need your help! The project will cost around $750. If you are able to make a
contribution please place your donation in an envelope addressed to me (Jordan Kieltyka) and forward it to the
Parish Office. Thank you in advance for your support!

GRACE SCHOOL SYSTEM GRACE ANNUAL APPEAL OPENS DOORS TO CATHOLIC SCHOOLS
The 2013-2014 Annual Appeal is an important tool for supporting families in the 9 GRACE Catholic elementary schools in
the Green Bay area. A mailing to donors and parents will invite supporters of Catholic education to support the GRACE
scholarship program. Contributors to the Annual Appeal will be able to support over 250 current students spread throughout
the 9 schools. The number of families requesting financial assistance for 2013-2014 rose by nearly 30%. The goal for the
Annual Appeal is $110,000. Every gift helps a child receive a Catholic education. To make a gift, please pick up materials in
your church or send a gift to: President’s Office, 1087 Kellogg Street, Green Bay, WI 54303.
NEW WISCONSIN TAX DEDUCTION FOR TUITION EXPENSES
The governor signed into law new tax legislation giving Wisconsin taxpayers the opportunity to deduct Catholic school
tuition expenses from their taxable income beginning on or after January 1, 2014. A subtraction from income is allowed for
tuition expenses that are paid to any of the GRACE Catholic schools. For each elementary student, the maximum amount of
tuition expenses which a claimant may subtract in a taxable year is $4,000. For each secondary student, a taxpayer can claim
up to $10,000. If a student is in 8th grade for part of a taxable year and then becomes a high school student in the same
taxable year, the parent may claim the subtraction for only one grade for that student in that taxable year. You may want to
consult a tax advisor if you need further details.
