Introduction
GFS Chemicals Inc - Reliable Chemical Manufacturing for 80 Years!
Since we started manufacturing specialty chemicals in 1928 as The
G. Frederick Smith Chemical Company, customers have learned to
rely on GFS for many good reasons:
Our original focus on
ligands and reagents
needed in analytical chem-
istry protocols gave us a
broad understanding of the
quality control issues that
impact your lab and busi-
ness decisions
Our seminal development
of chemistry of perchloric
acid and perchlorate salts spawned a tradition of engineering
excellence and emphasis on safety that applies to all of GFS
Chemicals manufacturing.
Our ability to actually manufacture reagents across the entire
chemical spectrum.
GFS Chemicals added the Amco Clear® and In-Spec® lines to its prod-
uct catalog in 2003 with the purchase of the APS Analytical Stan-
dards. Since this time GFS Chemicals has used its 80 years experi-
ence in manufacturing analytical
lab reagents to further expand
and improve on the products that
we offer in the Amco Clear® and
In-Spec® product lines. The
Amco Clear® product line now
includes standards for most of
today’s common instruments.
R&D work is always on going to
bring out new products.

Amco Clear® Basics
Amco Clear® has several advantages over formazin-based standards.
A typical mean particle diameter of 0.2 micron ensures consistent
light scattering characteristics, and provides the advantage of perma-
nent suspension. The GFS turbidity standards are significantly more
stable and, unlike formazin-based standards, can be used for calibra-
tion under one nephelometric unit (NTU). This is important because
the EPA requires turbidity values not to exceed 0.3 NTU for surface
source drinking water. GFS maintains the strictest standards of ISO-
9001:2000 conformance.
Advantages
Accurate to 1% lot to lot
NIST Traceable
Stable - a consistent suspension
Easy-to-use - No Mixing and no dilution required
Non-Toxic - No concerns over handling, liability, storage and dis-posal
Available in a wide range of values
Amco Clear Guarantee
The primary standards are guaranteed to be within 1% of the
stated value on the Certificate of Analysis for 1 year from the date
of shipment.
The secondary standards are guaranteed to be within 10% of the
stated value on the Certificate of Analysis for 1 year from the date
of shipment.
Precautions for handling and using the Amco Clear® Standards
Do not allow the standards to freeze or be expose to ex-
treme heat.
The standards are ready to use—do not require shaking.
Replace caps promptly on primary standards.
Use a cuvette stand or other glass holder to keep sealed
standards

Individual Turbidity Standards
GFS Chemicals Inc offers the Amco Clear® primary turbidity standards in
125mL, 250mL, 500mL, 1L and 1 gallon bottles (some standards may not be
available in all sizes). The standards are made instrument specific so instru-
ment make and model must be known in order to verify that the proper stan-
dards are being provided.
Secondary sealed standards may also be offered for use as a daily instrument
calibration verification.
A list is provided on the following pages of the most popular instruments of
which we provide standards for. This is not a complete list of all turbidime-
ters on the market. If you do not see your instrument listed please contact
GFS Chemicals Inc and we will work with you to provide you the correct stan-
dards.
Item #8000—0.0NTU can work for all instruments and can be used when a
0.02NTU standard is required.

Emerson Rosemount
Rosemount Clarity II™
The Clarity II™ turbidimeter is in-
tended for the determination of tur-
bidity in water. Low stray light, high
stability, efficient bubble rejection,
and a display resolution of 0.001
NTU make Clarity II™ ideal for moni-
toring the turbidity of filtered drink-
ing water. Because it measures tur-
bidity as high as 200 NTU, Clarity II™
is also suitable for most raw waters.
The Clarity II™ turbidimeter can be
used in applications other than
drinking water treatment. Examples
are monitoring wastewater dis-
charges, condensate returns, and
clarifiers.
Campbell Scientific
GFS Chemicals offers the Campbell Scientific
CR1000 and CR200 series data logging sys-
tems for use with the McVan Analite brand of
turbidity sensors. The CR200 series works
well with the NEP390 series sensors and the
CR1000 works well with the NEP9000 series.

In-Spec® Spectrophotometer Standards
In-Spec® photometric standards are well suited for daily determination of the
photometric accuracy of a spectrophotometer. Other, alternative standards
consist of filters and various dilutions of potassium dichromate and potas-
sium hydrogen phthalate (KHP). In-Spec® photometric standards require no
dilution, preparation or special storage conditions, eliminating user variance.
In-Spec® photometric standards are guaranteed to provide a quick and easy
method of validating a spectrophotometer or colorimeter.
Advantages
Accurate
NIST Traceable
Stable - a consistent suspension
Easy-to-use - No Mixing and no dilu-
tion required
Non-Toxic - No concerns over han-
dling, liability, storage and disposal
Flexible - Use at multiple wave-
lengths specific to your current
testing
Uses
Validate absorbance between instrument calibrations
Validate instrument linearity at a single wavelength
Disinfectant Byproducts Testing via Specific UV Absorption (SUVA)
In-Spec® photometric standards are a NIST traceable liquid standard for use
in UV/Vis spectrophotometers and colorimeters. In-Spec® photometric stan-
dards can be used to determine linearity & accuracy in the UV/Vis range of
190-1100nm. The In-Spec® photometric standards are composed of sub-
micron polymer spheres that will not settle out and provide stable readings
over a one-year period.
The In-Spec® product line also consists of wavelength and stray light stan-
dards that you can use to check the complete health of your spectrophotome-
ter.
