Alcuni elementi assolutamente fondamentali per l’industria dei media/comunicazione: indipendenza, pluralismo, accesso non discriminatorio ai mezzi etc. hanno rilevanza solo indiretta nel mondo finanziario

Un settore sotto pressione
Il settore media ha avuto una “performance” borsistica deludente negli ultimi anni (dal 2004). Nel 2007 il settore è sceso del 6% e del 25% negli ultimi 12 mesi (10% peggio dell’indice).
L’analisi dei diversi sub-settori evidenzia andamenti molto diversi.

M&A: un elemento poco ‘popolare’ in Italia
Sui mercati internazionali il 2007 ha visto numerose operazioni di fusioni e acquisizioni, anche nel settore media
– controvalore operazioni 2007 €70mld (stime UBS, vedi Appendice)– tutti i segmenti coinvolti (editoria professionale, quotidiani, agenzie,
editoria scolastica, TV…)
I fondi di private equities hanno realizzato metà delle operazioni, tutte ‘amichevoli’/concordate
Operazioni non ‘amichevoli’ lanciate in genere da operatori di settore
La situazione è molto cambiata del 2008, tuttavia operazioni di dimensioni medie – medio/piccole continuano, nonostante la crisi dei mercati finanziari (Aegis, Editis, directories, on-line)
