What is the relationship between the measures of the rectangle and the measures of the trapezoid?

Area of a Trapezoid

The area A of a trapezoid is one half the product of the height h and the sum of the bases b1 & b2.

A = ½h(b1 + b2) b1

b2

h

Remember…

Use the order of operations.

The bases MUST be added before multiplying by ½ of the height.

Find the area of the trapezoid

5 in.

12 in.

The bases are 5 inches and 12 inches. The height is 7 inches.

A = h(b1 + b2)

Find the areaA = h(b1 + b2)
