RESEARCH QUESTION AND THESIS STATEMENT Should the government keep developing
Phuket tourism as usual?
THESIS STATEMENT The government should stop developing
Phuket tourism because it is ruining natural resources, the economy and causing many social problems.
OPPOSING ARGUMENT 1 Economic Benefits Investment from other countries Thailand 6.7% of the GDP is travel and
tourism industry Phuket is contributing 2% of that
percentage High amount of revenue 5.5 million tourists in 2007
SUPPORTING ARGUMENT 1 Economic Problems Cost of Living The Revenue is decreasing since last
year Customer behavior has changed Baht appreciation
OPPOSING ARGUMENT 2 Social Benefits Employment Hospitality industry, IT business or real
estate business 2nd biggest bars, restaurant, guest houses and hotels
SUPPORTING ARGUMENT 2 Social Problems Immigrants Many immigrant were arrested by illegal
entry to Thailand Gangs AIDS Currently 3,813 people undergoing
HIV/Aids treatment in the Phuket Prostitution
SUPPORTING ARGUMENT 3 Environment Problems Destroying natural resources Destroying Coral Reefs Garbage are dumped into beaches They are laws but no action happening
CONCLUSION AND SOLUTIONS Conclusion If they keep developing Phuket, then
there will be more problems and it will make Phuket Corrupt
Solution Reconsider about what they have done
wrong and make suggestions to make Phuket as a wonderful and best resort like before when there were no problems compared to now.
