Our Tomarata Lake Wetland Visit

Rachel uses a net to dislodge insects and fish from the reeds so we can identify them.

The water clarification test was done by filling the tube with water from the lake and viewing an object in the turbidity tube. The disc in the tube was moved down with a magnet until it couldn’t be seen. The measurement was taken by reading the numbers on the side of the tube.

We identified the macroinvertebrates in the water using the WIMP. (The Wai Care Invertebrate Monitoring Protocol). It showed photos of the insects and fish we might find in the lake.

Darcie checks the water clarity.

Shane and Darcie check the water temperature. It reads 15° which is good.

Saffron and Hugo read the air temperature and the water temperature.

Looking for macroinvertebrates.

Rachel asks us some questions.

Matthew helps to measure the ph levels. They are good at 8.

The oxygen measurement at Spectacle Lake was similar to Tomarata Lake which was good.

Craig shows us the planting that has been done around Spectacle Lake.

Rachel gets a sample from the water so we can see what macroinvertebrates are in Spectacle Lake.
