TRANSCRIPT

“We Remember”By Tom Houston

The National 911 Memorial is located in Lower Manhattan, a part

of New York City.

Still Standing PROUDThe National 911 Memorial is located where the World Trade Center once

stood.

The Memorial has 2 reflecting pools

Salute at 911 MemorialThe names of every person who died in the

2001 and 1993 terrorist attacks are inscribed into bronze panels surrounding the pools

The names of all these people who died as a result of the terrorist attacks are included on the bronze panels: the people at the two towers of

the World Trade Center, the people on the 4 airplanes that crashed, the people at the

Pentagon, and the first responders.

Visitors can make rubbings of names to take home

with them.

At night, a light shines up through the names.

The two reflecting pools feature the largest manmade

waterfalls in North America

A “Callery Pear” tree survived the 911 devastation. It was removed, nursed back

to health, and re-planted near the memorial. It is known as the “survivor

tree”.

President Barack Obama attended a memorial service at the National 911 Memorial on Sept.

11, 2011, along with family members of the 911 victims. The memorial opened to the

public on Sept. 12, 2011

The National September 11 Museum is under construction next

to the memorial. This is what the outside will look like.

Two trident-shaped columns were salvaged from the original World

Trade center. They are incorporated into the atrium of the new

museum.

The “ Last Column” was placed in the lowest level of the museum, and the museum was built

around it. The “Last Column” was the final steel beam to be removed from the World Trade Center

site. It is covered with inscriptions, photos, and mementos placed there by family members and

recovery workers.

A new skyscraper is also being built on the former World Trade Center site. The name of the skyscraper is: One World

Trade Center. (It was formerly known as Freedom Tower.)

The concrete base will have no windows and is strong enough to

withstand a truck bomb.

The first of three 25-ton steel columns was erected in Dec.

2006.

This is how the building under

construction looked on July 31, 2011

This picture shows how close all 3 sites are each other: the National 911 Memorial in the

foreground, with the Museum and the new One World Trade Center, under construction,

in the background.

When complete, One World Trade Center will

have a radio antenna mast on top. Counting

the radio antenna mast, the building will be 1776

feet tall. (1776 is symbolic-it is the year of

American Independence.)

The building will have 105 stories. The building will be completed in 2013. It will be the tallest building in North America (when you count in

the height of the antenna mast).

Above the mast, an intense beam of light will be lit at night and will be visible over 1,000

feet in the air above the tower.

I am proud of my country!
