In1931,GovernorHueyP.LongandarchitectLeonWeiss,leftfuturegenerationsaglimpseintothepastinthewallsoftheLouisianaStateCapitolbuilding.Today,abitofthathistorywasuncovered.

Acopperbox,concealedbehind

thecornerstoneatthenorthwestcornerof the Louisiana State Capitol Building,wasdiscoveredduringresearch for therehabilitation of this National HistoricLandmark. According to the building’scurrent architects, completion ofconstructionwouldmakeaccessingthecapsuleatalaterdateimpossible.Senateofficialsmadethedecisiontoextractthebox and leave it sealed until anappropriatedatetoopenitisidentified.

“This time capsule is another

reminderofthisbuilding’srich,interestinghistory,”saidSenatePresidentJohnA.Alario,Jr.“IamhonoredtobepartofitsdiscoveryandIlookforwardtowhatitscontentswillreveal.”

Thetimecapsulewillbeanalyzedandaplanisinprogressforwhereandhowtheboxwill

bedisplayed.
