Finding the Main Idea
1) The most important idea in a paragraph or work is called the main idea.
2) The main idea identifies the topic of the paragraph or work.
It also states the most important idea about the topic.
3) The main idea answers the question "Which idea is most important to the topic?"
4) The main idea is often found in the first or last sentence of a paragraph.
5) Sometimes the main idea is not found in any one sentence. Figure out the main idea by asking the question,
"What is this paragraph/work all about?"
