Revelation 19

Matthew 24:3

As he sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?”

Matthew 24:29-30“Immediately after the tribulation in those days

the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken, then will appear in heaven the sign of the Son of Man, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.”

Matthew 24:22 “And if those days had not been cut

short, no human being would be saved. But for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short.”

I. THE PROMISE OF HIS RETURN

John 14:3“And if I go to prepare a place for

you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.”

1 Corinthians 15:51-52Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall

not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed.

Revelation 19:6-8 6Then I heard what seemed to be

the voice of a great multitude, like the roar of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying out, “Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns .

Revelation 19:6-8 7Let us rejoice and exult and give him

the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready ; 8 it was granted her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure”— for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints.

Ephesians 5:22-2622Wives, submit to your own

husbands, as to the Lord. 23For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior.

Ephesians 5:22-2624Now as the church submits to Christ,

so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands. 25Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, 26that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word,

II. THE NATURE OF CHRIST RETURN

James 2:5 Listen, my beloved brothers, has not

God chosen those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom, which he has promised to those who love him?

1. HE WILL RETURN PERSONALLY

1 Thessalonians 4:16 For the Lord himself will descend

from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.

2. HE WILL APPEAR AS THE

SON OF MAN

Matthew 24:30 Then will appear in heaven the sign

of the Son of Man, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

Matthew 26:64Jesus said to him, “You have said so.

But I tell you, from now on you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven.”

Daniel 7:13-14 “I saw in the night visions, and behold,

with the clouds of heaven there came one like a son of man, and he came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before him.

Daniel 7:13-1414And to him was given dominion and

glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed.

3. HE WILL RETURN LITERALLY AND VISIBLY

Acts 1:11 …and said, “Men of Galilee, why do

you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.”

Revelation 1:7 Behold, he is coming with the

clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen.

4. HE WILL COME SUDDENLY AND DRAMATICALLY

1 Thessalonians 5:2 For you yourselves are fully aware

that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.

Matthew 24:27 For as the lightning comes from the

east and shines as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.

5. HE WILL COME ON THE CLOUDS OF

HEAVEN

Matthew 24:30 Then will appear in heaven the sign

of the Son of Man, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

Revelation 1:7 Behold, he is coming with the

clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen.

6. HE WILL COME IN A DISPLAY OF GLORY

Matthew 16:27 For the Son of Man is going to come

with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay each person according to what he has done.

Matthew 24:30 Then will appear in heaven the sign

of the Son of Man, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

7. HE WILL COME WITH ALL HIS ANGELS

Matthew 24:31And he will send out his angels with

a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

Matthew 13:39-40…and the enemy who sowed them is

the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are angels. 40Just as the weeds are gathered and burned with fire, so will it be at the end of the age.

8. HE WILL COME WITH HIS BRIDE – THE

CHURCH

Colossians 3:4 When Christ who is your life

appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

Zechariah 14:5 And you shall flee to the valley of my

mountains, for the valley of the mountains shall reach to Azal. And you shall flee as you fled from the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah. Then the Lord my God will come, and all the holy ones with him.

9. HE WILL RETURN TO THE MT. OF OLIVES

Zechariah 14:4 On that day his feet shall stand on the

Mount of Olives that lies before Jerusalem on the east, and the Mount of Olives shall be split in two from east to west by a very wide valley, so that one half of the Mount shall move northward, and the other half southward.

10. HE WILL RETURN IN TRIUMPH AND

VICTORY

Zechariah 14:9 And the Lord will be king over all the

earth. On that day the Lord will be one and his name one.

III. THE TRIUMPHAL ENTRY

Revelation 19:11-21 Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white

horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. 12His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one knows but himself. 13He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God.

Revelation 19:11-2114 And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen,

white and pure, were following him on white horses. 15From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. 16On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.

Revelation 19:11-2117Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, and with

a loud voice he called to all the birds that fly directly overhead, “Come, gather for the great supper of God, 18to eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all men, both free and slave, both small and great.”

Revelation 19:11-2119And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth

with their armies gathered to make war against him who was sitting on the horse and against his army. 20And the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who in its presence had done the signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped its image. These two were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulfur.

Revelation 19:11-2121And the rest were slain by the sword that came

from the mouth of him who was sitting on the horse, and all the birds were gorged with their flesh.

Revelation 3:14 “And to the angel of the church in

Laodicea write: ‘The words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of God's creation.

Revelation 1:14 The hairs of his head were white,

like white wool, like snow. His eyes were like a flame of fire,

Judges 13:18 And the angel of the LORD said to

him, “Why do you ask my name, seeing it is wonderful?”

IV. THE CARNAGE OF THE WICKED

Revelation 19:17-21 Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, and

with a loud voice he called to all the birds that fly directly overhead, “Come, gather for the great supper of God, 18to eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all men, both free and slave, both small and great.”
