What’s a well-meaning teacher to do?

Levels of Knowing a Word1. No knowledge of the word—never heard or saw it 2. May have heard the word, but don’t really know

what it means 3. Can make general associations with the word and

recognize it within context (receptive)4. Have a rich understanding of the word and can use

it in speaking and writing (expressive)
