CHAPTER ONE What Are Agreements? Let’s talk about agreements: types of agreements, how they are created and sustained, and how you can work with your own agreements by recognizing them, releasing them and, in many cases, revising ones that are already there. We’ll look at the benefits of working with agreements, how you may be getting your way or how you’re making it difficult for agreements to shift and change. Then I’ll give you a step-‐by-‐step process, including a meditation, on how to recognize and release agreements and replace them. And finally, we’ll talk about why agreements work. Just what are agreements? Agreements are energy. They create order and structure in your physical world. They are not necessarily based in truth or in any kind of reality that you would recognize. They seek, require and, many times, demand that they be validated and supported. The more you repeat an agreement, the more it becomes a habit and looks or appears like a truth. It is very easy to change and create agreements, because they are just energy. They are thought forms. The more a thought form is questioned, the more flexible it becomes. And because thoughts are simply energy, it’s quite easy to shift and create with agreements. At
5
the same time, they are extremely powerful. They are the most powerful creating force in human consciousness. Authority holds the structure of agreements in place. Once you have an agreement and it holds a thought form, authority holds it in place and begins to make it appear to be real or true. Some examples of authority are science, religion, culture, government, school lessons, experience, your own trauma – all of those things that are greater in some way than self. Two examples of agreements through science are that Earth is flat or that it’s the center of the universe. An agreement from personal trauma could be “I’m not good enough because I flunked that quiz” or “It’s bad to make mistakes.” Two examples of my own personal trauma agreements: I never used erasers on pencils because I wasn’t allowed to make mistakes. Bananas make me sick because I saw a movie about Africa where they were eating white worms and they reminded me of bananas. Unfortunately, agreements are often created out of emotion: fear, doubt or protection; or conviction, a need to control or take power over something, or a need to hang onto something. Agreements are very strong because emotions hold them in place. Subsequently, they are strongly protected by that same emotion and energy of fear, doubt, conviction, power, control or greater purpose. An example of greater purpose holding an agreement in place is the belief that everyone has to wear seat belts. Another is that you’re supposed to be sad and grieving at a funeral. Agreements can be conscious, unconscious, in nature, in spirit, and in multiple dimensions. Because they are forms of thought held
6
together, they are available and appear to every reality. They are the primary tool of creating physical form and holding it. If agreements are created in fear, they hold you in that fear and that limitation. But they can also be created, in many different ways, out of expanded expression of an inner truth or a greater truth. Agreements are already in place everywhere around us. Every thing you look at and everything you see are held together by agreements. You may have find that even after careful planning, therapy, praying, hoping and dreaming, you see the same thing happen repeatedly. You think you have worked it through and yet it comes back. This is often because the pattern is set in place by an agreement.
Everything you look at and everything you see is held together by agreements.

CHAPTER TWO
Types of Agreements There are many types of agreements. We will look at the three primary ones: 1. Personal or individual agreements 2. Human consciousness agreements Collective agreements Family Local Cultural National Religious 3. Higher consciousness or master or soul agreements Universal laws – soul and source agreements Personal and Individual Agreements In the first category, there are two distinct areas: personal agreements, or those you hold yourself, and individual agreements, which are assigned to you by an authority or your society. Let’s explore both. Personal agreements come out of conscious personal choice. They often grow out of individual history or circumstance, experience and
8
things that happen to you. Karma and ego have a big impact on agreements you have with yourself, which creates a very individual experience. Your ego needs to have a unique identity. Therefore, agreements are how our unique individual character and personal quirks are formed and manifested. We tend to develop personal agreements early in life in order to fit in and to survive, be safe and get love. Individual agreements, which are assigned to you by an authority, your culture, community, teachers or parents, are much different. They tend to be far more impactful in your society. As human beings, we grasp the individual agreements early on in our lives in order to know how to act with other people. Again, we’re looking to fit in and survive. Individual agreements based on society or community are quite complex and layered within us. Human Consciousness Agreements Human consciousness agreements are about the consciousness itself, how it’s structured and how it’s put together in this civilization. These agreements are written down – maybe not physically, but they are written in the consciousness of almost anyone on the Earth. They are unspoken rules. These include agreements in the collective, family, local community, culture, nation and religion. Master or Soul Agreements Now, with the higher or master agreements, our third category, you’re getting into a fun area. Master agreements are the ones that are much more universal in their boundaries, their structure and
9
their order. It’s a barrier that’s beyond time, beyond space. If it’s beyond time, that’s where the time traveler lives. Beyond space is where the shape shifter manifests. It’s a place of eternity where regeneration and rejuvenation are a part of life because it’s just energy moving. There are many possibilities in master agreements. It’s where we define the many levels of consciousness beyond human awareness and control. Master agreements are expansive. They feel like they’re full of freedom and endless possibility. So the three types of agreements we will be working on are individual, both personal and society; human consciousness; and master or soul agreements.

Maxine realized her special intuitive powers when she was a young child and communicated with an imaginary friend she later came to know was her soul. About this same time, she met an African elder who became her mentor. Raised by two highly educated parents, she was always encouraged to pursue her dreams. Her mother was a theologian, metaphysician and dietitian, her father an international transportation engineer. She trained for the Junior Olympics in gymnastics, earned state championship titles in swimming and diving, and became an avid tennis player. Today she is a certified scuba diver. Maxine is trained in nursing and holds a bachelor of science in psychology and a master’s in human resource development and education from DePaul University. She has delivered keynotes and led seminars and retreats on health and psychology to audiences as small as 30 and as large as 1,500. Today she delivers customized presentations, seminars and retreats on the power of the soul. In the Author’s Words I am a writer, author and speaker and enjoy looking at life in new ways, asking the question “What if?…” My passion is to support our changing global consciousness by empowering one heart and soul at a time. As my wisdom emerges, I discover I can’t buy more time, so deep, heartfelt, committed relationships with all living things are most important to me. Those closest to me describe me as fun-loving, confident and sincere. I am an optimist with traditional values, yet liberal in my thinking. I take responsibility for my life experiences. Essentially happy, balanced, adventurous, affectionate and responsible, I am an explorer of new thought and love supporting others to be the best they can be.
