Personalities of the Apocalypse

The VictorLesson 8 08/16/15

Introduction:Because of the abundant grace we experience every moment of our lives, we often forget about God’s justice. Or worse, we try to turn the tables and judge God for His justice, accusing Him of being overly harsh and unloving.

Introduction:For many people, the idea of a judging God is a deal breaker – an excuse to reject Christianity.

Introduction:How could we call God “good” if He forever allowed evil to corrupt the world He created and pronounced to be good? The Bible gives us some key details about the way Christ will return to earth in judgment and justice.

The Priority of His Return

Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory.

II. The Prediction of His Return“Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men also saying, ‘Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of His saints to execute judgment on all, to convict all who are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have committed in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.’”

Jude 14-15

II. The Prediction of His Return“I was watching in the night visions, and behold, One like the Son of Man, coming with the clouds of heaven! He came to the Ancient of Days, and they brought Him near before Him. Then to Him was given dominion, and glory, and a kingdom that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and His Kingdom the one which shall not be destroyed.” ~ Jude 14-15

II. The Prediction of His Return“The Lord will go forth and fight against those nations as He fights in the day of battle. And in that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, which faces Jerusalem on the east. And the Mount of Olives shall be split in two, from east to west, making a very large valley; half of the mountain shall move toward the north and half of it toward the south.’”

Zechariah 14:3-4

Zechariah

II. The Prediction of His Return“… Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, when He comes, in that Day, to be glorified in His saints and to be admired among all those who believe.” ~ 2 Thess. 1:7-10

Paul

II. The Prediction of His Return“Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him.”

III. The Place of His Return“Scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, ‘Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.’” ~ 2 Peter 3:3-4

III. The Place of His ReturnChrist’s coming is certain. It is the time of His coming that is uncertain, known only to God the Father.

I saw the beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His army.

I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the birds that fly in the midst of heaven, “Come and gather together for the supper of the great God, that you may eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and of those who sit on them, and the flesh of all people free and slave, both small and great.”
