Agile Characteristics of a University(for flexible response to change)

Why Agility is Needed1. State funding of colleges is declining.

Ex. Penn State at http://www.budget.psu.edu/factbook/Finance2011/AppropriationVsTuitonFees1112.asp

2. Increased student loans and unprecedented student debt.Average of $35,051 per student in 2015 class. (MarketWatch May 9, 2015)Total of 1.2 trillion for all students. (USA Today April 8, 2015 )

3. Graduates are underemployed.Average annual pay is $35,339. (2080 hours x $6.99). 8-9% are unemployed.

What can universities do?

1. Argue for increased state funding.

2. Reduce mission creep.

3.Lower the cost of education for students by means of agile courses.
