MasterClass Dwelling Design prof. DiCk van gaMeren

During the Master Class Dwelling Design 60different dwellings will be designed in 1 day.The objective is to learn to understand the rela-tionship between program, size and type.

All dwellings will measure 120 m2. A matrix of15 building envelopes has been established. They vary from narrow and deep, via square, to wide and shallow. There are 9 single-storey, 5 two-sto-rey envelopes and 1 three-storey envelopes

Additionally 4 different user profiles have been identified. Each user profile will be combinedwith each dwelling envelope. Thus a number of 15 x 4 = 60 dwellings will be designed. The assignment for each student is to design afurnished dwelling.

general reQuireMents for the Dwellings

- side walls are solid (no windows, doors orother openings)- entry is gained through front façade- the dwellings should be stackable. this means no holes in the roof to provide light (light wells are permitted, as long as they penetrate both roof and floor. They must be subtracted from the floor area)- No specific context is provided, but the dwellings are considered to be connected to a street, gallery, corridor or a staircase. privacy issues must be addressed in the design- one of the façades is facing south- every storey/layer is 3 meters high

proDuction1:50 plan drawing(s), including furniture and materials. section may be included. Drawing should contain name of student, measurements of dwelling (envelope) and program.
