“We are part of the Family of God! As a Christian family, we seek to practice
the generous hospitality of Jesus Christ, who welcomes all. As a worshiping
family, we seek to enhance and expand our experience of God in worship. As
a family of Christ’s disciples, we seek to grow in our understanding of God’s
grace and God’s claim upon our lives. As a mission-oriented family, we
express our faith in action. As an historic Presbyterian family in a
contemporary setting, we are rooted and grounded in the Presbyterian Church
(U.S.A.) as we strive to remain relevant to the needs of our community. As
the joyful children of God, we live in faith, hope and love!”

OUR HISTORY: The Madison Presbyterian Church was organized in 1815.
The present sanctuary was built in 1846. In 1925 and again in 1956, rooms were
added to provide additional facilities for our educational task. As a congregation,
we are part of the continuing work of God through the Church of all ages and a
member of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
PEACE What kind of love is this…
so deep it casts out fear,
so great it dispels all darkness,
so beautiful all we can say is…
Thank You, Jesus!
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given…
And his name shall be called… the Prince of Peace.

THE CALL TO CONFESSION
God comes to love us and forgive us! Let us prepare our hearts as we confess our lives which are so often in exile, saying,
THE UNISON PRAYER OF CONFESSION
We have heard that our penalty has been paid, God of Comfort; yet we still insist on lashing out against others, feeling they deserve our judgment. We confess that you are patient with us but wish you would act quickly against those who hurt us. We confess your word will stand forever, but it is our words of pain and anger that cause long-term harm to others. Forgive us, Lord. Help us to remember that you are a God who loves us freely. You are a God not of punishment but of peace. Enable us to live as people who follow your example. In the name of Jesus we pray.
(A time of silence is observed)
THE KYRIE L: Lord, have mercy. R: Christ, have mercy. L: Lord, have mercy.
THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Hear the Good News God speaks to you: I love you; I forgive you; I restore you to new life. Let us not ignore the fact that God comes: not to condemn, but to comfort us; not to scold, but to speak tenderly to us of hope, of love, of joy. This is the Good News of the Gospel. Thanks be to God. Amen.
*RESPONSE OF PRAISE Gloria Patri 581
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning,
is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen.
HEARING GOD’S WORD
THE UNISON PRAYER OF ILLUMINATION
God who sets things in motion before we are ever aware, teach us to trust in your plan as we hear your Word. Amen.
THE FIRST LESSON Psalm 119: 10 – 16 O.T. 566
This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.
ANTHEM The King Shall Come When Morning Dawns Beck
The King shall come when morning dawns And light triumphant breaks,
When beauty gilds the eastern hills And life to joy awakes.
Not as of old a little child, To bear and fight and die,
But crowned with glory like the sun that lights the morning sky.
Then let the endless rapture begin, By prophets long foretold,
When right shall triumph over wrong, And truth shall be extolled.
The King shall come when morning dawns And light and beauty brings:
Hail, Christ the Lord! Thy people pray, Come quickly, King of Kings!
THE CHILDREN’S SERMON
THE SECOND LESSON O.T. 446
Esther 4: 1 – 17
