COURSEDESCRIPTION

OutlineThecoursedescribesallaspectsoftheprinciplesandmethodsassociatedwiththegeologicalinterpretationof open-hole well logs. The class deals with both well-established and newer, more sophisticated tools,showinghowlogdatacanbeusedtodetermine lithologyand interpret facies,stratigraphicandstructuralfeatures.LearningOutcomesParticipantscompletingthiscoursewillbeableto:1. Understandthefunctions,physicalprinciplesandlimitationsofdifferentloggingtoolsusedinastandard

loggingsuiteandtheirapplicationsforgeoscienceinterpretation.2. Appreciate the differences between logs acquired usingwireline conveyance and logs acquiredwhilst

drilling.3. Usewelllogstodeterminelithologiesandinterpretfacies,stratigraphicandstructuralfeatures.4. Calculateshalevolume,porosityandwatersaturationfromwelllogs.5. Correlatebetweenwellsusingwelllogs,integratingotheravailabledown-holedata.6. Analyse well logs and cores, together with other available data, to produce a coherent geological

evaluation.7. Employ dipmeter and borehole imaging tools and analyse their interpretation patterns to indicate

structuralandstratigraphicfeatures.TrainingMethodTherewillbelectures,frequentexercisesandcasestudiesusingrealdataduringthe5-daysclass.Thecoursewillincludecomputer-baseddemonstrationsofwell-loginterpretationsoftware.WhoShouldAttend?Thecoursebestsuitsthosebeginningtoacquaintthemselveswithlogsorthosewhodonotuselogsallthetime and need a refresher.
