“Faith In the Forest: Reconnecting with the God of Creation”
Triad Park, Kernersville ~ Shelter #6 ~ 10:30am
The SGUMC congregation, family, and friends are invited to step outside of our walls into God’s creation and worship together as one body of Christ! Rev. George will deliver the message as we learn how to be “the sowers of seeds.” There will be one service at 10:30am. The service will include all of the elements that we are accustom: announcements, congregational music/hymns, First Fruits’ Praise Team, Chancel Choir, prayers, a special Garden Kids’ time, Offertory, scripture, sermon and benediction. There will be a brief fellowship time followed by a catered BBQ/Chicken lunch complete with sides and desserts. Then let the games and fun begin! We promise there will be something for EVERYONE—young and old! Plan to dress according to the weather—causal/comfortable. There is ample seating under the shelter, but feel free to bring a lawn chair and or blanket to enjoy a day at the park. Shelter #6 is adjacent to restroom facilities and playground equipment. Stay as long or as short as you would like. The church buses will be shuttling anyone who would like rides to and from the park. They will leave SGUMC at 9:45am and returning as the need arises. In the event of inclement weather - we will move the worship service to SGUMC at 10:30am. We will follow the same format with lunch to follow the worship service!
“This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24

While the food of the month is instant oatmeal, Crisis Control will gladly accept canned foods all month. Items may be placed in the box in the welcome center and in the bins in the Fellowship Hall. If you wish to donate monetarily, please notate Crisis Control. $1 will equal 1lb towards our goal. Please stop by the Outreach board in the Welcome Center to see how we are doing on reaching our goal!
News from the Music Department…
LOVENOTES
On Sunday, May 5th at 3:00 pm, the SGUMC chancel choir will combine with the chancel choir from College Park Baptist Church in Greensboro to present “The Ones We Love, Songs of Praise, Assurance and Faith” in the SGUMC sanctuary. Many young composers, including Dan Forrest and Elaine Hagenberg are taking familiar hymn and creating beautiful new settings for them and this will be the basis for this concert. This is a LoveNote and the love offering will go to benefit the Choral Scholars Program at SGUMC. Introduced in 2017, the Choral Scholars Program offers scholarships to emerging young artists, allowing them to
explore their craft in context of church music. The benefits include not only the addition of their talents to our
program, but also gives us to foster a new generation of church musicians. Artists from our program have already
found salaried jobs in larger churches. The opportunity to experiment and train in the loving environment of Sedge
Garden prepares them to take larger roles in the world of church music.

OUT AND ABOUT…. Every year we are blessed to be able to take a family vacation in Ormond Beach, Florida. This hardy group is composed of Larry and me, our daughter, Jessie; her husband, Graham; their kids, Logan, Lexi, and Fynn;
our son, Jimmy and his fiancé, Jenn; and Larry’s older brother, Leighton, and his wife, Jeannie. It’s quite a
crew ranging in age from 3-79! The adventure began with us all catching up with one another at a hotel in Savannah where we had reserved rooms to break up the drive so we could arrive in Florida rested. It was here that I learned that there are dangers inherent in online booking! A steady stream of cars cruised the parking lot throughout the night, making brief stops to transact some form of business. I stood outside the room on the 2nd floor walkway and took in the scene, becoming aware that there were many young women standing outside, waving at the cruising cars. A gentleman walked by, pushing his bicycle on which was prominently displayed a pan-handling permit. Other than a few other unsuspecting travelers, the clientele seemed to be pretty transient, and the hygiene within the rooms themselves was questionable. As I surveyed our lodging, I was more curious than frightened. The residents seemed to have formed a kind of community, talking and waving with one another, some sitting outside, sharing beverages. Suddenly, I became acutely aware that we are all God’s creation, all beloved by our Lord. Though our circumstances were dramatically different, we were all sinners in need of a Savior. I also thought about the fact that it was with people like these – the disenfranchised – that Jesus had chosen to share his time and his friendship and his love. It was a stunning revelation and served to remind me that I was not there to judge, but instead, to be a demonstration of God’s love. The only thing I had to offer was a smile and eye contact…and a lot of silent prayer. The next morning, we opted to forego the complimentary continental breakfast and stopped at a McDonalds a few miles down the road. For the remaining vacation time, I was especially thankful for the privilege I had of being able to travel, spending time with a loving family, enjoying God’s creation without having to worry about where I would spend the night or what I would find to eat. The vacation was wonderful. It was filled with lots of family time and love, sand and sun, and good food, and lots of laughter. God is good – and God was good enough to send me off with a reminder to have compassion, understanding, and love for those who are different from me…but beloved by our Lord.

Happy Mother’s Day
May 12
To ALL of our SGUMC Mothers and
Special Women in our lives!
Perseverance - Refusing to give up when life gets hard.
“But those who trust in the Lord will receive new strength. They will fly as high as eagles. They will
run and not get tired. They will walk and not grow weak.” Isaiah 40:31, NIrV
“Publish His glorious deeds among the nations. Tell everyone about the amazing things He does.”
Psalm 96:3 NLT When you think about how big the world is, and how little you are, it may seem like
Psalm 96:3 is impossible. But all you have to do is start by telling one person about the wonderful
things God has done for you. Then that person can share with another person and so on. And if we all
keep doing that over and over again, over time, all the nations will know! THANK God for the things He
has done for you, and then tell someone else about it too!
Bottom Lines for the Month:
1. Keep going because God is with you.
2. You can choose joy when life gets hard.
3. God can help you let go of what is holding you back.
4. 4. Keep going because of what Jesus did for you.
Don’t forget!
