League Cup

Welcome everybody to Borrowash Victoria for
our League Cup game versus
Middlesborough. A warm welcome to the
travelling players, supporters and officials
from the North East.
Middlesborough are flying high at the top of
Northern Division One with 7 wins from 9 and
only 1 defeat. The Northern League is
renowned for being one of the toughest leagues to win, so we know they
will be a stern test for us today.
We are on good form ourselves completing the double over Guiseley
Vixens, who come out of Northern Division One last season. A positive 6
-0 win with goals from Lauren Steadman (3), Mel Johnson, Hannah Ward
and Natasha Hughes.
As a squad we have been hit with several injuries going into today's
game - Emily Jeffery (broken thumb), Louisa Abbey (ACL) and Katie
Lowder (Foot) all out for many weeks. However, this does provide
opportunities for others in the squad to prove themselves and establish
their place in the starting line up.
I hope today will be entertaining for all. Thank you for your support.

RECORD LEAGUE
ATTENDANCE, SEES
EWE RAMS DEFEAT
FOREST
Derby County Ladies defeated arch rivals Nottingham Forest 2-0 to move within a point of Premier League leaders Stoke City. The attendance of 405 spectators to the clubs Anderson Electrical Arena home, broke the league record for the FAW Premier League, since the formation of the Women’s Super League in 2013. Given that the reverse fixture, which had taken place only two weeks previously had seen the Reds inflict Derby’s first defeat of the season, it came as little surprise that Ewe Rams were on the front foot from the start, buoyed by the large crowd. However despite enjoying the lion’s share of the possession it took until the 70th minute before Lauren Steadman was able to finally unlock the visitors impressive defense with an effort from close range that went in off the post. The game was eventually killed off five minutes from time when top scorer Mel Johnson produced a superb finish from twenty yards to send the vast majority of the crowd home in good spirit.
Manager, Stuart Wilson was delighted with both the performance and support when he spoke to the local media after the game “ We somewhat cruelly lost a tight game to Huddersfield on Sunday and it was important that we got an immediate reaction from the group. The girls attitude, commitment and endeavour were there for all to see and I thought we were full value for what was an impressive victory. We’ll enjoy tonight, however thoughts are already turned to Sunday’s equally important trip to Guiseley. One of the things that attracted us to Derby was the obvious ambition that the club has and that was there for all to see tonight in the shape of a large and vociferous crowd “

Statto Nigel’s eagle eyes picked up on a
name on Middlesborough’s team sheet—
ex-Ewe Nyci Thorns who played for
DCLFC and appeared 11 times in the 05-
06 season.
Nyci has 6 goals to her credit as
Middlesborough fly high at the top of the
FAWPL Division One North this year.
We’re sorry she can’t be here today as
our Nige was hoping to add her
autograph to his collection!
We then come to the annual club photos shoot that sees all
35 partners join the club for a meticulous four hour photo
shoot that covers over 300 photo's. These are attended by
every player within the club along with parents and relatives
as well as club partner guests.....by the way, did I mention
the organising of the guided stadium tours as part of that ? !
Following this the smaller partners then need photo's
emailing across to them with our best wishes, whilst the main
club partners then receive a framed signed shirt bearing
their logo and their picture from photo shoot night.. These
don't frame themselves and have to be delivered in person
to a framing company the other side of Nottingham, before
being collected and issued. Some of these partners are
based miles away, so there is then the issue of delivery
logistics.
All of our club partners also receive complimentary
match tickets to a DCFC game ( this season it is against
QPR ), as well as this year being invited to our game
with Forest. However as I said at the start, we like to
ensure that our partners feel valued, so there is still
plenty to do in terms of three or four bespoke media
opportunities to arrange for each of the main ones over
the course of the season.
There is many a time that I wish....nay prayed, that we had a sugar daddy and simply had
one partner for the whole club, however last Thursday evening I spent a bit of time in the
presence of a number of our club partners as we beat local rivals Forest in front of over
400 spectators. To see them get almost as much buzz from that night as I did, and to see
them feel like they have a stake in the club truly makes the whole thing worthwhile.
No truer words have been spoke than '

Today I thought I'd provide our supporters with an insight into the madness, but oh so
necessary four month period that I call ' Club Partner Summer Mayhem ' !
One of the clubs shortcomings in its failed WSL bid of 2013 was a lack of external
investment and it's fair to say that a ' significant ' bit of work has been done on this front
since then. In fact I'd go as far to say that without it the club would now be in pretty
serious bother fiscally due to the loss of £ 10K's worth of revenue from DCFC ticket deals
and the escalating costs associated with running and kitting out 11 sides. In 2013/14 we
managed to secure 16 club partners, which rose to 27 last year and is now up to 35.
These partners not only make a significant contribution into
the clubs running costs, they have also unquestionably
contributed to the raising of our profile within the local
region. However they need to see a return for that
investment and that is where over the four months June -
October I basically become a stranger to my family and rely
on copious amounts of Red Bull and strong coffee to get me through each week !
Securing a club partner is rarely done in one meeting and it normally takes two or three
to get a deal over the line. For our part we are not in the business of making false
promises, and I like potential investors to be able to make ' informed ' decisions before
they commit to us. Once they have, the fun and games really start !From there I have to
secure sponsor logo's and associated wording before liaising with our sign writers,
programme editor, marketing director, social media officer and shirt printers. Once that
is done, shirts need to be secured not just for team kits, but also for club partner framed
shirts, and believe me that is a military operation in itself. these then need to be
delivered for printing. Easy enough ?.....absolutely not, when some kits or club attire
items carry two or even three partner logos !
