THE AZTECS AND THE MAYANS

THE MAYANS LIVED IN SOUTHERN MEXICO AND NORTHERN GUATEMALA IN CENTRAL AMERICA FROM ABOUT 2000 BC TO 900 AD.

THEY BUILT LARGE TEMPLES IN THE MIDDLE OF THEIR CITIES, WHERE THE EMPEROR WOULD LIVE. THESE TEMPLES WERE ALSO BUILT TO HONOUR THE MANY GODS THEY BELIEVED IN.

THE TEMPLE RUN DESIGN WAS ACTUALLY INSPIRED BY THE MAYAN TEMPLES.

THE MAYANS AND CACAO

THE MAYANS USED CACAO AS A CURRENCY

One small rabbit 1 bean One Turkey Egg 3 beans A Large Tomato 2 beans A Bunch of Bananas 1 bean One Turkey 4 beans A newly picked avocado 5 beans Five Chillis 30 beans Some pine bark(firewood) 100 beans

THERE IS EVEN RECORDS OF COUNTERFEIT BEANS BEING MADE OUT OF CLAY TO PASS ASS CURRENCY

Only the richest people made their cacao beans into a drink. Why do you think this was?

In the 12th century the Aztecs went to war and took over the Maya tribes.

THE AZTECS BUILT A SUPERCITY CALLED TECHNOCTITLAN

ONLY PROBLEM WAS…

NO CACAO TREES

THEY HAD TO HAVE IT BROUGHT UP FROM THE FORESTS. THE EMPERORS ALWAYS MADE SURE TO KEEP A BIG STORE OF CACAO

SOME EMPERORS EVEN SMOKED CACAO

WHEN COLUMBUS CAME LOOKING FOR GOLD HE ALMOST DISCOVERED CACAO, BUT IN HIS DESPERATION FOR GOLD HE IGNORED IT.

FERDINAND COLUMBUS; CHRISTOPHER’S SON WROTE THIS IN HIS DIARY…

They were taking over a boat when somebody spilled some cacao, and the natives ran for the beans

“as if an eye had fallen from their heads”

Because they were so wrapped up in looking for Gold Columbus and his son completely overlooked the importance of the Cacao Bean
