External Validation
Each year, a group of schools are nominated to participate in an external
validation process. This provides an opportunity for schools to discuss
their judgements about their practice and the evidence that underpins
them with a panel consisting of two visiting principals from other
schools. To achieve consistency across the state, each internal validation
team has to provide evidence to a pair of external validators. The evi-
dence uses the School Excellence Framework as a guide to measure
achievements. This framework has three categories of schooling with
each category having a number of elements. Essentially, each of the 14
elements outlines a key aspect of highly successful schooling.
On Tuesday 23 October, our school participated in the External Validation
process, allowing us to celebrate our successes and showcase our
school’s current achievements. The Wideview Validation Team felt we
were performing well in all 14 aspects of the Framework and excelling in
some of them. The external validators agreed with us and indeed felt we
were excelling in even more that we identified.
Staff at the school have worked very hard to achieve this stunning result
and I would like to personally and genuinely thank them for their sus-
tained efforts over the past years, in ensuring that the educational op-
portunities for students who attend our great school are of the highest
standard. Congratulations team Wideview!

Not Returning in 2018?
If your child is not returning in 2018 (with the exception of Year 6) we would appreciate you contacting the
office as soon as possible as we will be working on the organisation of 2018 classes .
World Teachers Day Anyone who lives with a teacher would know that the working day is not 9-3.
They would see firsthand the hours of organisation required each day to pre-
pare meaningful learning that is suitable to the needs of individual students.
Teachers make a difference to peoples’ lives, every day. Most of you would
remember a teacher in your life that inspired you and made a difference.
Mine was Mr Seymour, in Year 5 & 6. He made learning interesting and relevant which then made it stick in
my mind. He was firm but fair. He made time to hear from all his students and was interested enough to ask
questions about our families and interests. We all have at least one teacher that stands out. Share your sto-
ry with your children. At Wideview Public School we are so lucky to have such a wonderful group of teach-
ers who are so dedicated to their students and care so much about the their well-being, who are open
minded to continuous learning and hours of professional learning and always set high but attainable expec-
tations for all.

News from K-2 Chinese
The past few weeks the children have been looking at the Chi-
nese characters and have had fun making the Chinese symbols
using Play-Doh.
The students are becoming confident using different greetings
and can even introduce themselves now. I am so proud of their
wonderful achievements!
Chinese is on Tuesday in the 1S classroom at first-half lunch.
Anyone who is interested can come along.

Futsal 2018

Futsal has begun at Wideview with our first games being played this Wednesday. Lots of students came out
to cheer their friends and team mates on. All teams put on a stellar performance, well done everyone!

Atlantis – 3/4AF
The thousands of glowing lights twinkled in the dark sky. The gigantic buildings vanished one by one into
the darkness of the sea. Turning off the lights, one building then another. Underneath fish were swimming
calmly. On top people were screaming.
Jade
The gloomy lights shine across the city with the dark, scary tides. Buildings gradually disappearing through
the inky water.
Fynn
The millions of twinkling lights that reflected the vast ocean of the colossal skyscrapers were being
crunched one by one, as inferior buildings were leisurely disappearing under the radiant tides; vanished to
an underwater wonderland.
Sinead
The mysterious ocean rose, starting a flood, deep at the city of Atlantis. The lost light sparked from the tall
buildings. In a flash the city was mysteriously underneath the deep, dark ocean. Gone.
Alana
The dark, throbbing ocean crashed against the drowning skyscrapers. Slowly being demolished to dust.
Drifting swiftly away in the monstrous ocean.
Noah
The water sparkled as the gigantic skyscrapers drowned then disappeared into watery graves. Waves
splashed the last skyscraper, forcing it to drown.
Katie
The crashed city towers were slowly sinking into the deep water. Banished from the surface to the soaking,
wet ocean. The corrupted buildings tipped onto the roads, not to be seen again.

Parenting Teens Mental Health Survey
Have you got a teenager or “tween” (11 to 17 years old)? Want to do an anonymous online survey to help researchers (and have the chance to win a $100 gift voucher)? The UQ Parenting and Family Support Centre is wanting as many Australian families as possible to take part (so please share this post)! The survey covers your experiences on raising teenagers, how parents and teenagers get along with each other, and parents’ and teenagers’ mental health and wellbeing. You can do it by yourself or with your teen. For more information on the study and to complete the survey, please go to: https://exp.psy.uq.edu.au/parentingteens/project/mentalhealth. You can also contact the research team at parentingteens@uq.edu.au.

P&C UPDATE
P&C AGM
We held our Annual General Meeting on Monday night. Thank you to all who attended. Many people
have been working behind the scenes to set up new committees.
To start with, I’d like to thank some people who have stepped down from the P&C after many years’ ser-
vice. Thank you to Sarah Palmer, Karen Truscott-Jones, Jackie Blair, Jo Adams and Lisa Poole. Over the
years you have all gone above and beyond.
Congratulations to our incoming Executive Committee for 2018/2019. Thank you in advance for stepping
up and helping out.
President: Kath Edgar Vice President: Alison Glendining Vice President: Vacant Treasurer: Filip Cloetens Secretary: Edwin Tomlins Volunteer administrator: Vacant Our new Canteen Subcommittee consists of: Chair / Convenor: Melissa Hicks Treasurer: Corrie Hassan Secretary: Gaye Terioglu General Member: Vicky Staas Uniform Shop Subcommittee: Chair / Convenor: Bec Porter Treasurer: Caro Osborn Secretary: Kylie Foster
As you can see, we have a few vacant roles; Vice President, Volunteer Administrator and Band Treasurer.
The Vice President is part of the Executive Team and works on various project throughout the year, help-
ing out where they can. We all chip in and work collaboratively. The Volunteer Administrator role is a be-
hind the scenes role, it’s a new role this year created to work with the School Office and the P&C volun-
teers to ensure all the required paperwork is completed and we are compliant from a Department of Edu-
cation process and a P&C Federation and legislative perspective. This role requires pretty much no face to
face work and can be done via email whenever suits. It does require someone with good attention to de-
tail. The Band Treasurer role is also vacant, this requires someone to make payments on behalf of band,
ensure band fees are paid and working with the P&C Treasurer.
If you’d be interested in helping out with any of these roles, please contact me.
DISCO
Don’t forget the disco is next Friday night, 2nd November. Money and forms due back on Monday!
Thanks
