Structural Isomers By: Lindsey Brunton
Pentane
Isomer of C5H12
Definitions Isomers- molecules with the same chemical
formula but different chemical structures.
The simplest type of isomer is a structural isomer.
Structural isomer- A form of isomerism in which molecules with the same molecular formula have bonded together in different orders.
2 MethylButane
•This is one of three isomers of C5H12.
•It is an isomer because it still has 5 carbons and 12 hydrogen's, but arranged differently.
•This isomer is called 2 Methylbutane because you have a four carbons that form the butane and a methyl group off of the second carbon on the chain.
Di Methyl propane•This is also an isomer of C5H12.
•Di Methyl propane also still has 5 carbons and 12 Hydrogen's.
• Di Methyl propane has a base propane(3) chain and two methyl groups that are attached to the middle of the propane chain.
Extra• there is another division of and its called stereoisomers.
• its where only the geometric positioning is different.
•Another fact is that isomers are so important because organisms are built upon them.
Conclusion One of the most important things that I learned
is that isomers don’t have to have a major change to be an isomer. Like it could be as simple as moving and oxygen over from where it was before and it is classified as an isomer.
