ST. GABRIEL THE ARCHANGEL PARISH BULLETIN APRIL 8, 2012
MESSAGE TO ST. GABRIEL PARISH FAMILY
The grace, peace and love of Our Lord Jesus Christ be with all of you!
HE IS RISEN! ALLELUIA!!
Easter Prayer
Loving God, creator of all,
today is the day of Easter joy.
This is the morning on which the Lord appeared
to those who had begun to lose hope,
and opened their eyes to what the Scriptures foretold:
that first he must die, and then rise and ascend
to the Father’s glorious presence.
May the Risen One
breathe on our minds and open our eyes
that we may know him in the breaking of bread
and follow him in his risen life.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
THANK YOU
A big debt of gratitude to all who have helped in any way to prepare for the celebrations of the Triduum: the Liturgy
Planning Ministry, the sacristans, those who assisted them in preparing what is needed for the liturgies, those gardeners
who made the grounds and gardens look so beautiful, those who donated and cleaned the palms for Palm Sunday, those
who replenished the envelopes and cards in the pews, and anyone else who helped prepare in any way for these great
liturgies.
Thanks in advance to all the liturgical ministers whose hours of hard work will inspire us and lead us in the Triduum
celebrations: the musicians and choir, the liturgical dancers, the altar servers, the Eucharistic Ministers, the lectors, the
ushers, the RCIA team, the Baptism Ministry, the catechists for those to be baptized, all who are willing to take a special
role in any way to make our celebrations so beautiful.
WE WISH ALL OF YOU AND YOUR LOVED ONES A HAPPY AND GLORIOUS EASTER. MAY THE RISEN
LORD FILL ALL OF YOU WITH BLESSINGS OF EASTER PEACE, LOVE AND JOY!
Father Doug Sister Kathleen Michele Bergeron
Operation Rice Bowl Our celebration of the resurrection brings us new joy and
hope! Throughout Lent, your support of Operation Rice
Bowl has helped offer hope to millions of people around
the world who benefit from the work of Catholic Relief
Services. For six weeks you have prayed for the people
of Madagascar, fasted in solidarity
with the people of India, learned about
the challenges in the lives of people in
Vietnam and El Salvador, and given
sacrificially to create economic
opportunities in Zambia. Their
struggles—and the efforts of CRS—
are far from over, but you have made a difference.
Thanks for your generosity.
The parish office will be closed Easter Monday, April 9.

It has been said that the most convincing sign of the
Risen Christ is the Risen Christian. Today, in parishes
around the world, new life is drawn from the waters of
baptism, and new Christians are thrilled to see
the crowds pour in to join in the feast. On
Easter, we do not say the Creed, but rather
renew our baptismal promises with hearty
responses. We are taking the first joyful steps
on a fifty-day-long celebration. In the southern
hemisphere, the world is slipping into winter,
but for us in North America, the earth itself
seems to sing hymns to Christ’s victory.
Look this morning for the fresh paschal candle
standing near the baptismal waters. It was consecrated in
the hours of the night, will burn brightly for fifty days
whenever we gather for prayer, and will glow again at
every baptism and every funeral in the year ahead. Even
though we may be gathered around the candle someday
in sadness, today’s joy at Christ’s victory over death will
shine through. —James Field, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
Many thanks…
to my St. Gabriel Family for the cards, prayers,
and visits during my recent surgery. Your
thoughtfulness and the support extended to myself
and family will always be remembered and
cherished. Many blessings to all of you during the
Easter Season. Ouida Jones
My gratitude to you, Sr. Kathleen and the entire St.
Gabriel parish family. As you know, the
suddenness of Leroy’s passing is taking some time
to adjust. I am most appreciative of all the
kindness extended to Leroy, me and my entire
family. St. Gabriel will always be my parish home.
Kindly convey my gratitude to all.
Sincerely, June F. Taylor

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
Know Your Numbers
He was in his mid-30s, the father of two young children. Although he wasn't aware of any
preexisting health conditions, the screening showed that he had elevated blood sugar -- one
component of metabolic syndrome and a possible indication of pre-diabetes.
The American Heart Association and the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute defines
metabolic syndrome as the presence of three or more of the following conditions:
Large waist circumference (length around the waist):
o Men - 40 inches or more
o Women - 35 inches or more
Elevated triglycerides (greater than 150 mg/dL)
Low HDL cholesterol (less than 40 mg/dL)
o Men - under 40 mg/dL
o Women - under 50 mg/dL
Elevated blood pressure (greater than 130/85)
Elevated fasting glucose (greater than 100 mg/dL)
Metabolic syndrome can lead to an increased risk of coronary heart disease, stroke, and peripheral vascular
disease, as well as type 2 diabetes. It's also shockingly common -- 1 in 6 Americans have it. That's 50 million
people!
Conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes are often manageable, but first you need to know your
numbers! Come out to the Health and Wellness Screening after masses next weekend, April 14 and 15.

Living the Gospel
In the Gospel we read that the disciples saw the empty tomb
and believed. What have you “seen” during the Lenten
season and Holy Week that has deepened your faith in
Jesus? What additional steps can you take to ensure that the
renewal in your life that has occurred during Lent and Holy
Week can become permanent and not fade away after a few
weeks?
“I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.”
