2015 St. Ambrose Gala – Make A Wish To-Knight
St. Ambrose Catholic School A National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence
March 7, 2015
Dear Friends of St. Ambrose,
There are so many reasons to consider this evening A Knight in Paradise! After the snowy
winter, it is a pleasure to come together in the warmth of the tropical sun. What a joy to be
surrounded by friends and supporters of our school, a real tribute to the closeness of this
community! We are thrilled to welcome back David Culver of NBC4 to host our evening!
St. Ambrose Catholic School was founded 20 years ago by parishioners who believed that we
could support a school that could compete with the strong Fairfax County schools. They
believed that we could provide the faith component that children need to thrive. I think they
would feel gratified to see that their prayers were answered, and their hard work justified by
our Blue Ribbon School. We stand on the shoulders of educators and supporters who have
provided the expertise and funding to allow us to provide an excellent education for our
students, including a Preschool, a Resource program for children facing learning challenges,
and stimulating extracurricular activities.
Congratulations to our Development Director Krista Gauthier, Gala Planning Committee Sue
Bogan, Phil and Kathleen Coady, and Barb Shea, and their talented committees for organiz-
ing such a lovely evening. Kristin Gorak and our PTO Board have given strong leadership as
we continue to work together to make our school vibrant and affordable.
We are blessed to have the solid support of our parish priests. Thank you, Father Fisher,
Father Smith, and Father Merkle for your prayers and constant support of our parish school.
Our students are very fortunate to have you in their lives.
Finally, words cannot express the gratitude I feel for our faculty and staff. They exemplify
the Spirit of St. Ambrose and make our school a wonderful place for children and adults
alike. We are blessed to have such an accomplished teaching team!
Please enjoy this Knight in Paradise! Thank you for making St. Ambrose School a priority in
your life. May God continue to smile on St. Ambrose School!
God bless,
Barbara Dalmut
Principal

Auction Tax Deduction Tips
Many people are often curious to know what is tax deductible when you go
to an auction. Here's what you need to know:
* If you donated an item, you can deduct the fair market value of that item
* You are only allowed to deduct the amount for an auction item over the
fair market value. For example, if you win a $100 certificate for $125, you can
deduct the $25. Remember this as you bid because even you if pay over the
fair market value, you are not only getting the tax deduction but you are
also helping our school!
* Any cash donation you make for Fund a Need, the Giving Tree, or to the
event in general is 100% tax deductible!

General Auction Rules
All bids are binding and all sales are final. No exchanges or refund requests will be honored. Auction items must be paid for in full. Please note specifi-cations and limitations carefully. All services, trips, gift certificates, and such must be used within one year of the auction unless otherwise noted, and are subject to availability. Taxes, tips and beverages are generally not includ-ed in restaurant certificates unless specified. Unless specified, dates and times are to be arranged at the mutual convenience of the donor and the buyer. Items will be sold “as is” to the highest bidder with no warranties expressed or implied. No statement contained in the catalog or made orally shall be deemed to be such warranty, representation or assumption of liability. By purchasing, the buyer waives any claim for liability against either St. Am-brose, the PTO, or the donor, and neither the school nor the donor is re-sponsible for any personal injuries or damages that may result from the use of property or services sold.
Silent Auction Rules
To bid, write your assigned bidder number on the line of the item bid sheet. Minimum opening and increase bid amounts must be adhered to in order to be valid. Announcements will be made ten minutes and five minutes before the Silent Auction closes. Upon closing, winning bids will be circled on bid sheets and the bid sheets will be collected. A carbon copy will remain. No subsequent bids will be allowed. An invoice will be prepared for each win-ning bidder for check-out at the end of the evening in the computer lab.
Live Auction Rules
To bid, raise your paddle in the direction of the auctioneer. The highest bid-der acknowledged by the auctioneer shall be the purchaser. The auctioneer shall have the final discretion to determine the winning bidder.
Bell Ringer Rules
A Bell Ringer is an opportunity for more than one winning bidder for a Live Auction item. Bell Ringers will be limited and unknown in advance. If, at the conclusion of bidding for any given Live Auction item, the auctioneer de-cides to offer a Bell Ringer for that item, the Auctioneer will offer the item to both the highest bidder AND the second highest bidder. If the second high-est bidder still wants to purchase the item, then both the highest bidder and the second highest bidder will pay the price of the second highest bid. If a Bell Ringer is offered to a third bidder, the third highest bidder will be offered the same item at the price of the second highest bid.

March 7, 2015
Welcome and thank you to all of those who are able to make it to
the St. Ambrose Gala of 2015!
My classmates and I would like to thank the PTO, the staff mem-
bers, teachers and parents of St. Ambrose School for the educa-
tion and healthy environment which they have provided to us.
Your donations have helped us to acquire a better education and a
deeper understanding of our faith. Within the past two years, the
school has attained new laptops, a new annex and many other re-
sources which we, as students, are greatly appreciative to have.
Without the help and support, we would not be the same school
as we are today. Everyone has made a difference for the greater
good by changing the way teachers teach and students learn. The
opportunities that are presented for each student create a chance
for everyone to excel academically and spiritually.
All of our memories and great experiences are significantly cher-
ished by all. Thank you and have a wonderful evening!
