Organisation and Objective

Space Applications Centre (SAC) is one of the majorcenters of the Indian Space Research Organisation(ISRO) located in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. SAC focuses onthe design of space-born instruments for ISRO missions,development and operationalisation of applications ofspace technology for national development. SACdesigns and develops all transponders for the INSATand GSAT series of communication and navigationsatellites and optical and microwave sensors for remotesensing satellites. The applications encompasscommunication, broadcasting, navigation, disastermonitoring, meteorology, oceanography, environmentmonitoring and natural resources survey.

Earth, Ocean, Atmosphere, Planetary Sciences andApplications Area (EPSA) cover activities in the fields ofAgriculture, Hydrology, Land applications, PlanetaryScience, Physical Oceanography, Satellite Meteorology,Environment Including Terrestrial, Coastal and Marineenvironment, Marine and Water Resources, Climatechange and Urban planning etc. The activities arecarried out under a number of programmes linked toIndian Earth Observations.

This is ISRO's initiative to support Graduate and Postgraduate students, professionals from academics andresearchers across the country to pursue research inthe field of Earth Eco systems research using earthobservation satellite systems. Our Indian Remotesensing satellite IRS missions like IRS-1A to 1D,Resoursat- 1 and 2, RISAT and data from other missionswill be made accessible.

Training on Remote Sensing & Geo-Informatics – Basics

Space Applications Centre, Ahmedabad, is organising atraining programme on ‘Remote Sensing & Geo-Informatics – Basic’ for Indian Participants underTREES initiative of VEDAS. This programme aims toprovide theoritical basis and hands-on experience tothe participants of this programme. The programmewill help in capacity building for Basic understanding ofRemote sensing and geo-informatics and utilisation ofsatellite data from Indian and global Missions. Thecourse will comprise of Introduction to Remote Sensing,Applications of Remote Sensing, Digital ImageProcessing, Introduction to Geo Informatics & Web GISand some Hands on exercise / Tutorials.

Details of The Training Program

The training programme consists of lectures byeminent scientists working in related fields in ISROin the forenoon followed by hands-on session withsatellite data in the afternoon. Participants will beprovided subsidized paid accommodation at SACguest house on twin sharing basis. No fees will becharged for the training. However, TA/DA will not beprovided. Participation certificates will be providedafter completion of the training. No electronicgadgets are allowed within SAC premises.

Only 20 participants can be accommodated for thetraining programme. If more number ofapplications are received, the selection will be madeon the basis of applicant’s background experiencesand qualifications.
