SOUTH WALES CLUSTER

“To develop a world leading truly sustainable Industrial

Cluster befitting the societal needs of 2050 and beyond’.

Through working together, and the support of Governments and NRW, we will explore:-

• the mechanisms for Decarbonisation• How to become a wholly circular economy, • the Hydrogen economy, • Energy and Resource efficiency

Thus developing a ‘Clean Growth’ vision for South Wales industry.

Working with the Liverpool Manchester Cluster

‘South Wales’ + ‘HyNet’ form “West Coast cluster” with 15Mt CO2/yr injection capacity 1.5bt CO2 storage - sufficient for 100 years

5Mt CO2/yr from South Wales

Competitive cost of carbon abatement

SUMMARY

• The Cluster is just starting but with some momentum

• The Progressive Energy initial overview will help pull us together and will show that by working together with the NW Cluster we can offer UK Government an attractive and relatively quick option for reducing CO2 emissions

• We are starting to work together with UK Government through their programs for Decarbonisation

• Look forward to working further with Welsh Government to create options and a vision for 2050

• We can then develop roadmaps for the required R&D, technology demonstration, skills, incentives and the policies we need to make that vision a reality
