Problem SituationA store receives a shipment of VCR’s and CD players. A shipment of 5 VCR’s and 4 CD players cost $1950. A shipment of 3 VCR’s and 6 CD players costs $2250. Find the cost of a VCR and the cost of a CD player.

Define VariablesM= cost of CD players J= cost of VCRs

System of Equations

5J + 4M = 19503J + 6M = 2250

Solution MethodWe are going to guess and check to find the solution.

Steps of SolutionWe started guessing with 100 for J.5 * 150 + 4 * 300=19503 * 150 + 6 * 300=2250

Solution to the System of Equations

(150, 300)

Check of Solution5 * 150 + 4 * 300=1950 ☺3 * 150 + 6 * 300=2250 ☺
