Appendix 1 Notice for HIV Screening and Treatment Costs
(Health examination hospitals shall issue this notice and health certificate to the examinee)
1. The government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) has revised its laws to lift restrictions on entry, stay and residence of non-ROC nationals infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in addition to removing this item from the health examination.
2. The government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) does not offer subsidies to non-ROC nationals infected with HIV infection for treatment in Taiwan. The annual treatment costs for HIV is NTD$300,000 (approximately USD$10,000). It is strongly advised that non-ROC nationals undergo HIV screening in their home country prior to arriving in Taiwan. Persons infected with HIV are strongly advised to seek treatment in their home country Persons intending to work in Taiwan are advised to purchase medical health insurance in advance.
3. Upon entry into the Republic of China (Taiwan), foreigners may undergo HIV screening at a hospital. The consultation hotline for infectious diseases is 0800-001922.
Appendix 2 Additional instructions of health examination for residence application
1. Children under 6 years of age are exempt from health examination,
but vaccination certificates are required. (Child age one and above should have at least
one measles and rubella vaccines).
2. Pregnant women and children under 12 years of age are exempt from chest X-ray examination;
Pregnant women should undergo chest X-ray examination after giving birth.
3. Qualifications for applying exemption from chest X-ray examination: People from countries with a tuberculosis prevalence rate of under 30/100,000 and received physical examination certificate that determining individual’s unsuitability to undergo chest X-ray, verified by Taiwan’s CDC.
4. Stool examination for parasites with centrifugal concentration.
5. Children under 15 years of age are exempt from serological test for syphilis.
6. Hansen disease exam should be conducted in accordance with patient privacy rights; patient can be accompanied by friend during examination and undergarments should remain on.

Appendix 5: Determining Factors for Health Exam Failure and Follow Up Procedures
Test
Chest X-ray for
Tuberculosis
1. Active pulmonary tuberculosis or tuberculous pleurisy denotes failure
2. Non-active pulmonary tuberculosis including calcified pulmonary tuberculosis, calcified foci and enlargement of pleura denotes healthy status.
3. Those who are determined to be TB suspect or whose results are diagnosed as pending by designated hospital in Taiwan must take the report and X-ray films to the referred institution for re-examination; those living in cities/counties without a referred institution are requested to go to the department of chest medicine at a nearby hospital.
4. People with failed results are allowed to stay for re-examination after receiving treatment, but the duration of stay must be in accordance with visitor visa entry/exit permit.
Stool Examination
for Parasites
1. If intestinal helminthes eggs or other protozoa such as Entamoeba histolytica, flagellates, ciliates and sporozoans are detected, the exam is considered failed.
2. If Blastocystis hominis and Amoeba protozoa such as Entamoeba hartmanni, Entaboeba coli, Endolimax nana, Iodamoeba butschlii, Dientamoeba fragilis, Chilomastix mesnili are found, the exam is considered passed and no treatment is required.
3. People with failed results can undergo treatment, and negative re-examination results are considered passed.
4. Pregnant women who have positive result for parasites examination are considered passed, but are advised to seek treatment after giving birth.
Serological Test for Syphilis
1. Meeting one of the following criterion is considered failed:
(1) Without past history of syphilis therapy or with unknown history, the non-treponemal test and the treponemal tests are positive.
(2) With past history of syphilis therapy, the non-treponemal test titers are 4-fold rising.
2. Serological non-treponemal tests and treponemal tests:
(1) Non-treponemal tests:RPR or VDRL.
(2) Treponemal tests:TPHA, TPPA, TPLA, EIA, CIA, and FTA-abs.
3. Those who had failed serological test for syphilis but have accepted treatment are considered passed
Measles and
Rubella
Antibody test
It is considered failed if the measles or rubella antibody is negative (or equivocal) and no measles and rubella vaccination certificate is issued. Those who have contraindications, not suitable for vaccinations, are considered passed.
Examination for Hansen’s Disease
1. Patients in need of further examinations are required to go to designated hospitals; those living in a city or county without a designated hospital can visit a department of dermatology at a nearby hospital.
2. Patients with failed results are allowed to stay for re-examination after receiving treatment, but the duration of stay must be in accordance with visitor visa entry/exit permit.

Article 1 These regulations are established in order to encourage international students to study at Chang Jung Christian University (CJCU) and to reward outstanding international students who are already enrolled in a course of study at CJCU.
Article 2 International students as referred to in these regulations must meet the criteria established by the ROC Ministry of Education and must have applied for admission to a program of study.
Article 3 The requirements for scholarship eligibility are as follows:
1. New students: Students who qualify as international students and who have applied for new admission to the university.
2. Returning students: International students who have completed at least one academic year of study with sufficient credits to qualify as full-time students, ranked in the top 50% of the class, had conduct grade in each semester higher than 80, and no record of disciplinary actions.
Students who are already recipients of the MOE’s Taiwan Scholarship are not eligible for scholarships established by these regulations.
Article 4 Scholarship terms are as follows:
1. Scholarship categories:
a. Reimbursement of tuition and fees, plus reimbursement of living expenses for the year of the scholarship not exceeding TWD$20,000.
b. Reimbursement of tuition and fees.
c. Reimbursement of tuition.
d. Reimbursement of living expenses for the year of the scholarship not exceeding TWD$20,000.
2. Scholarship Time Limits:
a. Bachelor program students: 4 years
b. Master’s program students: 2 years
c. Ph.D. program students: 3 years
3. Applications for scholarships should be made to the Office of International Affairs; scholarships are awarded following review by the Committee for International Academic Scholarships.
4. Scholarships are awarded once per academic year; application and review of applications are carried out on a yearly basis.
Article 5 Application deadlines:
1. New students: June 30 of the year in which the student enters the university
2. Returning students: July 15, in the academic year preceding the year for which the scholarship is to cover
Article 6 Materials required for application
1. Students who are applying for new admission should submit the following materials:
a. Completed application form
b. Two letters of recommendation (Chinese or English)
c. Study Plan (Chinese or English)
d. Autobiography: 300-500 words in length (Chinese or English)
e. New international students: an authenticated transcript from highest level of study completed at the time of application.
f. Proof of language proficiency in either Chinese or English.
2. International students who are already enrolled should submit the following materials:
a. Completed application form
b. Student ID (photocopy)]
c. CJCU Transcripts
d. Two letters of recommendation from the chair and another faculty member in the student’s department/ institute
e. Other relevant documents (documentation of academic achievement, participation in extracurricular activities, awards, publications)
Article 7 The number of scholarships to be awarded per year is flexible and is adjusted according to the university’s budget.
Article 8 Scholarship Application and Review Procedures:
1. Scholarship applications of incoming international students who have been officially accepted by the Office of Academic Affairs will be submitted to the International Academic Exchange Committee for review by the Office of International Affairs (OIA).
2. International students who are already enrolled in a course of study should submit materials to the Office of International Affairs; the OIA will pass the applications on to the International Academic Exchange Committee for review.
Article 9 The allocation of scholarships will be decided by the Committee for International Academic Exchange.
Article 10 If scholarship recipient takes academic leave, defers admission, or withdraws from the university, scholarship eligibility will be revoked. A scholarship recipient who withdraws from the university shall return all scholarship funds ever received before the withdrawal procedure is completed.
Article 11 If it is determined that a scholarship recipient has submitted falsified documents or supplied false information, scholarship eligibility will be revoked, and case will be dealt with through appropriate regulations.
Article 12 These regulations have been reviewed by the Committee for International Academic Exchange and approved by the Committee for Scholarships and Work-Study Awards; they go into effect following announcement of President. Amendments, which follow the same procedure.
Note: In case of differences between Chinese and English versions of this document, the Chinese version shall prevail.
