October will be very busy in the west end, and you’re all invited! We have two
Halloween Parties coming up, plus a Soup Cook-off, and a trip to a pumpkin farm
scheduled!
West Enders, and anyone else who can make it, are invited for a trip to Fleitz’
Pumpkin Farm on Thursday, October 13th. Just let us know you’d like to join us!
The Golden Oldies will partner with the Elmore Kiwanis again this year to hold our annual Pastor’s Chili Challenge & Soup Cook-off at the Pre-game Chili Supper at
Woodmore High School on Friday, October 21st!
We are also having a lot of fun planning our Halloween-themed Open House in Elmore. We’d love for you to join us on Tuesday, October 25th, for an activity packed day! Costumes are optional, but if you wear one, there will be prizes! Plus a Euchre tournament and Indoor Corn Hole! Prizes all around! We will also have Blood Pressure & Blood Sugar screenings, starting at 11 AM, and an informational
presentation on “Healthy Aging”.
We hope you enjoy Stuffed Cabbage, because that’s what’s on the menu! Come see how we keep busy in Elmore. Give us a call at 419-862-3874 to reserve
lunch!
Genoa is also planning some fun for Halloween, ON Halloween! We’ll start the day early, with Bingo at 9:30 AM, then the party gets started for real about 11:30, as we admire costumes and solve a puzzle or two. We’ll have lunch; then play some Pinochle or Dominoes; get some goodies; win some prizes; judge some costumes,
and generally enjoy a good time!
Thank goodness that party is on the last day of the month; we’ll need to rest up
after being so busy all through October!
Have a Frivolously Delightful Fall!

October is Full of
Surprises! . . .
And Activities!

Genoa Seniors Play with a Purpose!
Each month the Genoa Seniors play a Bingo game for prizes. Each Senior brings a prize, then takes a prize, when they win a Bingo game.
In August, they changed things up a bit by bringing in school supplies for the Genoa Area Schools! When they won a game they still won prizes, but the school supplies collected were boxed and delivered to the school! Connie Winters, the School Secretary, was delighted to accept them.
Connie Winters, Genoa HS School Secretary, was delighted to receive several boxes of school supplies from the Genoa Senior Center.
So . . . we had a new Cardio Coach at
the Genoa Senior Center Cindi Bush’s granddaughter came to meet the Genoa Seniors and found out they were having an exercise class using one of her favorites—a pool noodle. So, she helped out with the class. Such fun!
Hi! My name is Lola,
and I’ll be your Cardio Drumming Coach today.
First, take a modified pool noodle in each hand. . . .
Make good use of your chair, . . .
And always finish with a snack!
IT’S A TEDDY BEAR PARADE!
September 9th was National Teddy Bear Day! The Seniors in Genoa decided to collect some teddy bears and donate them to the Genoa Police & Fire
Departments to use when kids need some comfort. We even received a
donation from a senior living at Elderlife, a senior living center in Genoa, who saw our activities calendar for September and wanted to donate!
Genoa Police Chief Brad Weis stopped in on the 9th to accept our donations,
and express his appreciation for our interest in the community!

Ottawa County Senior Resources
8180 West State Route 163 We are located at Riverview Healthcare Campus
All are welcome & encouraged
to attend the meetings
Fall has arrived in all its colorful glory, and we remain very busy here at the Senior Center. Some of the islanders that worked during the summer are now rejoining our ranks & of course we are sadly saying good-bye to some of our summer participants. Participation in our activities remains strong, but there’s always room for more. We actively encourage all seniors to join in any of our programs.
Bring a friend, encourage your neighbor, or whatever it takes. We are a group of some of the most active seniors in the county. Let’s keep it up!
We had several special events & programs in September: The “Empty Bowls” Benefit, the “Senior Day Tour to South Bass Island” as well as 2 informative seminars on Nutrition & Home Safety/Fall Prevention that were all well attended.
The highlight for October should be our Cider Press Potluck on Oct. 11th at 11:00 am. In case of rain on the 11th, we are shooting for Oct 12th. We are going to be pressing apples from the tree @ the Senior Center & also invite anyone who might have apples available to bring those also. Bring a dish to share & a contain-er for some cider to take home! We had plenty for everyone last year so we anticipate the same this year On Monday Oct.24th at 5:30, we are planning another Soup & Show night.
Our Senior Lunches are back to Thursdays only at Tipper’s at 12:00 noon. Please make your reservation by Wednesday at 12pm either by signing up at the Senior Center or calling the center at (419) 285-5501. This is really important as we have to let Tipper’s kitchen know the lunch count by 12pm Wednesday so they can plan accordingly for these delicious & fun Senior Lunches! A very special “Thank-You” goes out to Sandy, our wonderful senior lunch waitress who helps make our lunches run smoothly!!! She is one efficient lady, knowing even the type of salad dressing each person likes without having to ask. Another big “Thank-You” goes to Tipper who always goes above & beyond in supporting the Put-in-Bay Senior Community. Thanks again for all you do for us!!!
The good people at the EMS continue to take Blood Pressures every Monday at 10:00am during the Coffee Social. Feel free to get yours checked, as this is a great service they provide. The “60+ Clinic” is a free pro-gram for those 60 and older. It’s held at the Senior Center every 4th Thursday of the month. The date for Oct. is Thursday the 27th, so if you’d like to take advantage of this wonderful program, please call 419-734-6800 to make your appointment.
We are honored to host the Legion Lunches every 3rd Thursday of the month. We are looking for people who are willing to volunteer to help serve the lunch, make dessert and/or clean up afterword. Please help us support our veterans.
I’d like to give a shout out to all our seniors for both their participation & suggestions, as well as volunteer-ing to assist in all our activities. Nothing goes unnoticed and all is greatly appreciated!
