Policy challenges

Priority 1: Making better use of digital technology for teaching and learning

● Use of technology in daily life not yet matched in education

● 18% of schools in Europe not connected to broadband

● Technology offers new ways of learning and collaborating, unprecedented access to content

● Yet it is not always used in a purposeful way ● Organisation-wide approach is key

SELFIE - in the spotlight!

Priority 1: Making better use of digital technology for teaching and learning

“Support the digital readiness of both general and vocational

schools by strengthening their digital capacity and by making

the SELFIE self-assessment tool reach one million teachers,

trainers and learners by end of 2019 in all EU Member

States and the Western Balkans; promote a mentoring

scheme at national/regional level, supported by an EU-level

awareness-raising platform”.

An open badge for SELFIE contributors

The person awarded this badge has participated in the development and testing of the SELFIE self-reflection tool for schools. The tool supports schools with the uptake of digital technologies for teaching and learning and it was piloted in 14 countries in late 2017. The SELFIE tool has been developed by the European Commission with an international team of experts (https://ec.europa.eu/jrc/en/digcomporg/selfie-tool/community). The experts have contributed to developing the content, translating/adapting the tool to the local context and running the pilot implementation in their countries.

35

Are European schools ready to make the most of digital technologies for learning?

36

Self-reflection: know yourself!

Where you stand today

Change process Where you want to be tomorrow

The self-reflection should be about the learning for the digital age,

NOT about technology
