BRIEF HISTORY OF THE COLLEGE Suliapada is the block headquarters of Baripada Sub-division of Mayurbhanj District.
It is 30 Kms. away from District Head quarter. Most of the people are primitive tribals
like Shantals, Bathudis, Bhumijs, Lodhas etc. and they eke out a living using forest
resources and primitive farming, most primitive settings of the tribal and their socio-
cultural activities can easily be found in this locality.
The History of P. S. College, Suliapada is the expansion of Higher Education in the
tribal Sub-plan area of Suliapada Block of Mayurbhanj District, Odisha. When there
was no such wide spread of Higher Education in this Tribal area, a few local
intellectuals of Suliapada Block of Mayurbhanj District felt the necessity of setting up
of a Degree College in this backward sub-plan area to promote Higher Education. At
that Transition period P. S. College, Suliapada took its conception in the year 1992.
The college had a modest beginning in July 1992 firstly, At the time of inception, the
college secured affiliation to Utkal University in +3 Arts with a sanctioned strength of
128.
The long cherished dream of this locality ultimately materialized by the active co-
operation of the people of local area. In 1992 the college got permission for +3 Arts
stream with 128 seats in ENG,MIL(O),HIST,POL.SC.,ECO,EDN & ORIYA . In 1998
the college got permission for +3 Science stream with 32 seats in ENG,MIL(O),
PHYSICS, CHEMISTRY & MATHEMATICS. The College has been successfully
catering to the needs of Higher Education of the people not only of Mayurbhanj, but
also of adjoining districts of Odisha since its inception 1992. After many sleepless
Nights the institution saw the dawn and received Grant-in-Aid in 20.01.2009.
Over the years the institution has grown from the strength to strength and glory to
glory by adding fresh feathers to its cap of success. In 2012-13 the College got
permission for increase of seats from 128 to 160 in +3 Arts , opening of Hons.
Education in +3 Arts and opening of Hons. Mathematics in +3 Science and opening
of new subject Chemistry, Botany, Zoology (CBZ). In 2013-14 the college got
permission for opening of History Hons. in +3 Arts and increase of seats from 32 to
64 in PCM in +3 Science.

The College has been growing its branches since its inception . In 12th Aug-2011 the
college got 2(f) & 12(B) status from UGC. The institution has distinction of having
highly qualified faculty members. Keeping the pace with fast growing world the
institution has adopted innovative practice to fulfill the growing needs of the students.
The College aims at providing the quality education, building character and conduct
of the students and moulding all round development of their personality through
various extensive services and healthy practices.

In order to improve the academic atmosphere of the college, various attempts have
been made by the teachers and the management. Students are given counseling
from time to time on personal level. Departmental seminars, UGC sponsored
seminars and discussions, etc. are also held in the college at regular intervals. The
college publishes a magazine annually. A wall magazine is also published under the
auspices of the editorial board meant for the purpose,;’
In the Academic sphere the Institution has seen many ups and downs in its progress
and spent many glorious moments. Now the institution is slowly stepping towards its
final perfection. In the last two years the College has seen its infrastructure in the
matter of New Administrative Building, Boundary wall, and a massive Gate. Recently
UGC has Sanctioned 60,00000/ (Sixty Lakhs) for the construction of Girl’s Hostel to
accommodate the Girl’s Student of the College.
The College got its fulfillment in the most of its applications by the kind co-operation
of the local people, local administrators, and above all the efficient management of
the dignified Governing Body. Existence of Cordial relationship between the Student
and teacher has developed the Academic excellence. It will grow as it continues to
grow towards its full bloom.

1.1 Curriculum Planning and Implementation
1.1.1 State the vision, mission and objectives of the institution, and describe how these are communicated to the students, teachers, staff and other

OUR VISION:
The Vision of P.S College ,Suliapada, Mayurbhanj is to provide inclusive education for inculcating human values, professionalism and scientific instillation to all sections of students including scheduled tribes, scheduled castes, other backward communities and religious minorities.
OUR MISSION:
Mission: The mission statements of our College are as follows:
To provide ample scope for multifaceted development of local youths irrespective of religion, caste, gender.
To provide quality higher education to its students.
To provide and promote inclusive education for all.
To develop academic programmes based on local/regional/national/ global needs.
To pursue student-centric learning for self-development and skill development among students.
To nurture social awareness and responsibilities among its students.

Objectives The objective of the College is striving to achieve the stated vision and mission statements through its action plans and relevant activities. The vision, mission and objectives of the College are communicated to the students, teachers, staff and other stakeholders through the Prospectus and Website of the College, Notice Board, meeting and interaction with the stakeholders. 1.1.2 How does the institution develop and deploy action plans for effective implementation of the curriculum? Give details of the process and substantiate through Specific example(s). The curriculum design and development action plans are prepared by the North Orissa University to which the College is affiliated. The details regarding implementation of the curriculum is decided at the beginning of the year by the staff-council in a meeting . Faculty members are directed to prepare the lesson plans in the format prescribed by the state government and the progress is recorded accordingly. The lesson plans and progress registers of different departments are verified by the Academic Bursar and finally by the principal at regular interval. The Academic calendar prepared at the beginning of the year is followed for effective implementation of the curriculum. 1.1.3 What type of support (Procedural and practical) do the teachers receive
(from the university and/ or institution) for effectively translating the curriculum
and improving teaching practices?
Normally, the University does not provide any type of support to the teachers for implementation of the curriculum and improving teaching practices. University only supplies the syllabus. But Being an affiliated institution we are always in tune with the latest trends in education. The College always encourages the faculty members to participate in the orientation / workshops /seminars organized by the affiliating university and also different Colleges in order to update their knowledge . The college also encourages its teachers for extensive and intensive use of the library and internet available in the college for developing their knowledge as well as teaching practices .

institution for effective curriculum delivery and transaction on the
curriculum provided by the affiliating University or other statutory agency.
For effective curriculum delivery our institution always give importance to
Academic improvement and in the same time give more importance to over
all development of the Students by encouraging them to work with other
forum such as NSS. The college is running with the basic mottos of providing
best education to the Students within the available infrastructure. Special
classes are conducted for slow learners. Regular - tests are held for increasing
the standard of the students .

industry, research bodies and the university in effective operationalization
of the curriculum ?
Though the college has no scope for interaction with the industry or research bodies , but for effective operationalization of the curriculum, suggestions are given to the University authority regarding alteration or improvement of the curriculum . 1.1.6 What are the contributions of the institution and/or its staff members
to the development of the curriculum by the university?(number of staff
members/ departments represented on the board of studies, student
feedback, teacher feedback, stakeholder feedback provided, specific
suggestions etc.
No staff members of our College represented on the board of studies, but whenever the university seeks feedback /suggestion on the changes of existing courses, suggestions are given to the University authority regarding alteration or improvement of the curriculum.
1.1.7 Does the institution develop curriculum for any of the courses offered (other than those under the purview of the affiliating university) by it? If ‘yes’, give details on the process (‘Needs Assessment’, design, development and planning) and the courses for which the curriculum has been developed. The college does not enjoy the freedom to frame its own curriculum for any of
the academic programs.

1.1.8 How does institution analyze/ensure that the stated objectives of curriculum are achieved in the course of implementation? The college ensures the achievements of the objectives of curriculum from the
Performance of the students in the University examination.
1.2.1 Specifying the goals and objectives give details of the
certificate/diploma/ skill development courses etc., offered by the
institution.
Keeping in mind the growing needs at state, national and global level and considering the unprecedented need of making the environment eco-friendly, the college imparts education at Graduate Level in all branches, of
Arts and Science with basic knowledge of computers. 1.2.2 Does the institution offer programmes that facilitate twinning/ dual degree? If ‘yes’, give details. No
1.2.3 Give details on the various institutional provisions with reference to academic flexibility and how it has been helpful to Students in terms of skills development, academic mobility, progression to higher studies and improved potential for employability. The College follows the Curriculum designed by the affiliating University which is also mandatory. Following the rules and regulations of the affiliating University, the College provides academic flexibility to its students by offering choices for the subjects/ courses in UG programme. The college offers B.A., B.Sc., to keep the students abreast of this fast changing technological world. The inter disciplinary course in environment was also introduced for all B.A, B.Sc., so as to shoulder their responsibility as a good citizen to ensure a safe environment. Communicative English has been introduced in order to improve the communication skill of the students.

1.3 Curriculum Enrichment 1.3.1
Describe the efforts made by the institution to supplement the University’s
Curriculum to ensure that the academic programmes and the institution’s
goals and objectives are integrated?
As an affiliated College, the institute does not have any liberty in formulating
its own curriculum ,But The college aims to impart such knowledge as may be
necessary for the all round development of the students The college ensures
that the University Curriculum is followed in the best of the spirit. The college
academic calendar is prepared every session with the active involvement of
the heads of various departments and the college advisory committee. The
Academic council and Advisory committee makes sure that the curriculum
framed by the university is supplemented in such a way that it reflects “the
Mission and the Vision” of the college.

1.3.2 What are the efforts made by the institution to modify, enrich and
organize the curriculum to explicitly reflect the experiences of the Students
and cater to the of the dynamic employment market?
The task of framing of curriculum of the College as stated earlier is in the hands
of its affiliating university. The institution can only organize the curriculum by
supplementing it with extra courses like personal Development, Coaching
classes for various competitive examinations. The curriculum framed by the
university is enriched and organized by the collective effort of the teachers and
the Students.
1.3.3 Enumerate the efforts made by the institution to integrate the cross
cutting issues such as Gender, Climate Change, Environmental Education,
Human Rights, etc., into curriculum?
The college integrates cross cutting issues such as gender, climate change, environmental education, human Rights, ICT, etc. in to the curriculum by including Environmental studies into the syllabus of Arts & Science students. Apart from this, the College provides Self-Defense Training‘ to girls student and provides computer education to its students. 1.3.4 What are the various value-added courses/enrichment programmes offered to ensure holistic development of Students ? Moral and ethical values : The College NSS unit regularly visits the adopted village and creates the awareness on various social issues and on the way of life The volunteers of NSS units are always alert in regard to community services and national solidarity. Employable and life skills: Being an Aided general degree college, the College cannot ensure employability directly. But. The Students are allotted the different responsibilities in organizing events such as cultural programmes, departmental seminars etc. Thus they improve their team building and organizational skills which helps in building their Employable and life skills. Better career option: The College provides computer education for its Students to develop their skills . The study of this enables all graduates to be familiar with computer which enhance employability. The College always counsel the Students for their better career. Community Orientation : The institution organizes community orientation programmes such as Blood Donation Camp, Health Camp , Aids awareness, Drug abuse, child labour, plantation in collaboration with NSS.

1.3.5 Citing a few examples enumerate on the extent of use of the feedback
from stakeholders in enriching the curriculum?
Feedbacks are collected from students, alumni’s and parents who are in touch with the college. But the suggestions in the feedbacks are not helpful for enriching the curriculum because the curriculum is designed and prepared by the University. The college only follows the syllabus prepared by the affiliating university. 1.3.6 How does the institution monitor and evaluate the quality of its enrichment programmes? Since these programmes are included in the curriculum, the IQAC monitors the programmes just as other programmes.
1.4 Feed back System 1.4.1 What are the contributions of the institution in the design and development of the curriculum prepared by the university? As stated earlier the preparation of courses mainly lies on the affiliating university. So the institution does not have the freedom to formulate the curriculum. In spite of this we are free to share our value based suggestion with the university to reach the curriculum at the height of its glory.
1.4.2 Is there a formal mechanism to obtain feedback from Students and
stakeholders on curriculum? if ‘yes’, how it is communicated to the
university and made use internally for curriculum enriched and introducing
changes/new programmes ?

Only three Honours programme has been introduced in History, Mathematics and Education. The introduction of those subjects and stream are directly related to the demand of the local society. The major chunk of people were going to big cities for taking higher education. Similarly there were no nearby Colleges to offer Honours and science subjects to the local people. Our’s is the first institution to offer this avenue to this backward area of the state.

Yes, The Admission Committee of the College prepares the Session
Charge in the beginning of each session and that is approved by the president

through on-line and off-line are invited during June every year. And the total
admission process is being computerized. The total admission process is done
transparently as per Govt. Norms i.e. through Student Academic Management

To bridge the knowledge gap of the enrolled students in different programmes, Slow and advanced learners are identified on the basis of their performances in the unit test examinations ,on the basis of class room participation, and performances in the monthly tests. Then special sessions are arranged to bridge the knowledge gap of the different students. Teachers are directed to give extra importance to the Students to help them to cope with programme to which they are enrolled. The college which is coeducational institution sensitizes its staff and students on issues such as gender inclusion, environment etc. by holding seminars on the relevant topics like women empowerment. Environmental Studies is included as a compulsory subject carrying 100 marks in University B.A. / B.S.C syllabus. institution is planning to upgrade its existing library, laboratory, computer

Higher Education department of Odisha and MP , MLA LAD funds etc.
