he TC2100 Multi-Drop Fiber Optic Modem provides maximumreliability for linking monitoring devices (typically RTUs or PLCs)

to a Host Controller or CPU. It is completely transparent to data orcommunicationsprotocols.

TheTC2100canbeconfiguredinRingorSelf-HealingRingtopologies.TheSelf-HealingRingschemeissophisticated, i.e. itdetectsupstreamanddownstreamfailuresonbothTxandRx,andautomaticallyre-routesanycableorequipmentfailure.TC2100masterandTC2101slaveunitsareinterchangeablebysettingadipswitch.“Multiplemaster”unitsareoptional.

It supports asynchronous data rates up to 38.4 Kbps. ElectricalinterfacesareRS-232,RS-422orRS-485.TheRS-485electricalportcanbemulti-dropped.Therearetwooptionalversions(ModelTC2100T)forextremetemperatureapplications(-20°Cto70°C&-40°Cto80°C).

Each unit comes standard with two pairs of fiber interfaces andeither 2-Channel RS-232 or 1-Channel RS-422/RS-485 interfaces. ThesecondchannelontheRS-232interfacecanbeusedfordata,RTS/CTShandshakingsignalsorasatelephoneextensionwiththeModelTC1900“Quick-Talk”phoneadapter.

Localandremoteloopbackisstandard.DiagnosticLEDsareprovidedto help installation and troubleshooting. Dry contact alarms can beconnected to RTUs/PLCs to indicate specifically where a fault hasoccurred.Atestsignalgeneratorforverifyinglinkintegrityisprovidedtoaid installationandtroubleshooting.“Anti-streaming”capability isstandard.

The TC2100 is compatiblewith all popular types and sizes offiberoptic cable and is availablemultimode (850/1300nm) or singlemode(1300/1550nm).FiberopticconnectorsareSTorFC.ElectricalconnectorsareDB25female.Poweris12VDC;optional24VDC,-48VDC,125VDCor115/230VACwithanexternalpowercube.

What Makes the TC2100 Self-Healing Ring Different from Other Vendors?

ManyoftheTC2100’sfeaturesarecriticaltonetworkoperation;someareuniqueforaproductofthistype.Itisimportanttonotethattheterm“Self-HealingRing”meansdifferentthingstodifferentvendors.BecausethereisnoindustrystandardforSelf-HealingRings,vendorofferingsvarygreatlyintermsoffunction,featuresandsophis-tication.

TheTC2100SelfHealingRingdiffersfromcompetitorofferingsinitssophistication.Thissophisticationenablesittobuildinavarietyofuserbenefitsoftennotavailablewithmanyothervendor’sSelf-HealingRings.

•The TC2101 Slave Unit Provides Loop Monitor Signal LEDs that Detect if any Incorrect Fiber Cables are Con-nected.

SolidlylitgreenLPA(Loop“A”)andLPB(Loop“B”)LEDsindicateanormalsystem;blinkinggreenLEDsin-dicatethatthefibercableshavebeencross-connected.

Somevendorsdonotofferanysimplemeanstoverifythatthefiberopticcablesarecross-connectedatre-motenodes.

Thisisabsolutelycritical!Forexample,ifatechnicianin-advertentlycross-connectstheRingAandRingBcablestoamodem,thenetworkwillappeartofunctionnor-mally,buttheSelf-Healingportionwillnotbeoperable.Techniciansmusthavespecificdiagnosticstopinpointwheretheerrantcablecross-connecthasoccurred.

•The TC2100 can Detect Faults Both Upstream and Downstream from Each Unit.

TheTC2100candetectcablebreakageatbothtransmitandreceivingsides.Somevendor’sSHRproductsdetectcablebreakageonlyatthereceivingside.Unlessthedevicecandetectfailuresatthetransmitside,thereisnowaytoknowifthenextdeviceisreceivingthesignal(seeadjacentdiagram).

•The TC2100 Prevents any Type of Echo Effect.

Somevendorsofferaself-healingschemethatdoesn’tseparatebroadcastandreceivechannels.Thisoftenresultsinan“Echo”effectthatcandisablenetworkcommunications.(”Echo”happenswhenthedatasignaltransmittedintotheMasterunit,andaroundthering,isreceivedbackattheMasterunit’sport).

•Each TC2101 (Slave) Includes a Dry Contact Alarm which Enables Pinpointing any Fault.
