The Role of Literature in the Research Workflow

Adapted from Laura Croft @ Nature

A Few Tips: Successful Literature Searching & Research

• Develop a consistent file-naming system for yourself− e.g. Initials_ProjectName_Year_MonthDay_Keywords− e.g. EHR_orientation_15_0213_summer_research_fellows.pptx

• Take advantage of your subject librarian

• Learn to use the resources, tools provided by the Library− CLIO− Borrow Direct, InterLibrary Loan (ILL), Offsite− e-link @ google scholar, LibX @ Firefox

• Determine the major journals in your field & set up email alerts, RSS feeds− http://library.columbia.edu/subject-guides/chemistry.html
