Recommendations
Students who wish to participate in dual enrollment are required to take the
Accuplacer exam to determine if they are college ready. This test assesses
their knowledge of Algebra I, Algebra II, Reading, and Sentence Skills.
Students can also take the Accuplacer at FCC in the Testing Center. There is no
charge.
Exemptions to Test
You may be exempt from taking one or more placement tests depending on your academic history and your scores on other tests. You must submit your exemptions to Mrs. Zimmerman. FCC accepts the following exemptions:
SAT scores:
A 500 or higher on the critical reading test fulfills the reading and writing requirement. A 500 or higher on the mathematics test fulfills the math requirement. SAT scores cannot be more than five years old.
ACT scores:
A 21 on the English, Reading, and or Mathematics portion of the test fulfills the corresponding requirement. ACT scores cannot be more than five years old.
Frederick County Schools Students: Junior or Senior Math Exemption. FCPS students who can provide evidence that they have completed an Algebra II orhigher math course in their Junior or Senior year, and earned an A or B, are exempt from taking the FCC math test.
AP Scores of 3 or higher in English Language and Composition, English Literature and Composition, and/or Calculus or Statistics earn students college credit and fulfill the corresponding placement requirement.
Challenge Exam
Any student wishing to enroll in FCC Calc1, must also take the FCC Challenge
exam.

How much college credit will I get?
– Each school varies
Artsys website
Statement from University of Maryland
If the student provides documentation such as an
official transcript from FCC that the student
completed EN101 while in high school, the credits
will transfer to UMD. Also if this is for a student
who will be applying as a freshmen for Fall 2016
consideration, they will just want to make sure to
provide documentation to UMD that they are taking
the EN101 course or if the information is noted on
the student's high school record in some manner,
this will help with the freshmen application process.

Project Lead the Way
leading provider of rigorous and innovative STEM education curricular programs
used in middle and high schools across the U.S.
piloted it’s Biomedical Sciences curriculum in 2007
classrooms are those of innovation where students become college ready through a
hands-on project-based curriculum. Students collaborate to investigate and solve
real-world problems that emphasize critical thinking and creativity.
teachers of the Biomed program go through an extensive two-week professional
development for each Biomed course they teach.
Goals
Goals of the Biomed Program:
Engage students in a rigorous academic curriculum
Raise student achievement in Math, Science, English, and Social Studies
Improve readiness for college
Increase the # of students completing postsecondary degrees
Increase the # of students selecting careers in the biomedical sciences
CurriculumFocuses on
Critical thinking
Creativity
Innovation
Real-world problem solving
The Program is
Hands-on

Who may be interested and what does it
entail
Anyone with an interest in engineering
Wanting an opportunity to take a sequence of courses that will
expose them to the first principles of engineering
hands-on learning where students work through various
engineering discipline stations at their own pace
engage in upper level math, science and IT courses offered at THS
Most Program completers will pursue additional educational
opportunities, while others may proceed directly into the
workforce.
Pre-Engineering Program
The following courses are required in order to graduate
from the Pre-Engineering Program:
· Pre-Engineering 1 *
· Pre-Engineering 2
· Pre-Engineering 3
· Pre-Calculus
· Physics (either Algebra Based Physics, Honors Physics, or
AP Physics)
Chemistry
In Addition
2 elective courses that include: high level math, science,
technology education, or informational technology
courses. These courses must be sanctioned for each
student by the Pre-Engineering Program Advisory Board.
See Program Coordinator for details.
In addition, it is highly suggested, but not mandatory, that
students planning on majoring in engineering at the
collegiate level complete calculus and a computer
programming course prior to graduation.
Pre-requisites
sophomore status
successful completion:
of Foundations of Technology or Foundations of Computer Science
Algebra 1
either Introduction to Chemistry and Physics (Class of 2016 -2019)
Algebra-based Physics or Physics of Earth and Space (Class of 2020
and beyond)
FCPS/ FCC Articulation Agreement
Any student who completes all 3 Pre-Engineering
courses with a ‘B’ or higher in each as well as Pre-
Calculus will receive credit for EG 100
(Introductory Engineering Science) at FCC
provided he or she takes another FCC class. It is
possible that these credits could then be
transferred to four-year universities as elective
credits.
