The Saskatchewan government website defines a Crown Reserve(CR) as “an area of Crown minerals or Crown minerals lands that hasbeen withdrawn from mineral dispositioning for purposes other thanLand Claim Selections.” The reason given for the creation of CRs is“among other things…to prevent conflicts in mineral resourcedevelopment or to keep mineral dispositioning activity from interferingwith future land use.” (Notices: Crown Minerals Withdrawals and Re-openings, 2013)Some CRs may preclude a single resource while others may precludenumerous or all resources. A few CRs may have a potash permit (KP)on them. These permits were most likely granted before the land wasestablished as a CR. Other CRs may have a KPSA on them which is apotash permit with a special agreement. These KPSA’s have onlybeen given once and the government hopes to avoid using them againin the future.
