Welcome to 2015! In thinking about what our Chamber theme might be during my year as Chairman of the Board, I kept returning to the idea that your Cham-ber board and staff remain vigilant in seeking ways to positively impact our businesses, community and area, and I finally settled on the topic Alert to Opportunities, Positioned to Act for our 2015 year. Most of us are familiar with the weekly, monthly and annual events that are the staples of the Chamber’s services and activities. But what many of us are not able to see are the discussions that go on at the committee or board level that keep your Chamber focused on how we can bring the greatest value to our members. The em-phasis is on you, our supporters, and building the economy for the benefit of all. Being alert to opportunities can mean adding additional events, such as the inaugural Energy Expo in 2014. It might mean setting an alternate date for the drag boat races, and then being able to host that event three months after the original date due to sufficient rains. It could also take the form of new and expanded services for our smallest members, or assisting larger members including Angelo State or Goodfel-low in seeking new facilities or missions. Positioned to act communicates that we have streamlined our bylaws in order to be able to take action on a shorter timeline. It also can include monitoring the State Legislative process this year and advocating for legislation that will support our trans-portation initiatives, or oppose regulations that make it more difficult for you to make a profit. Incumbent on our carrying out this theme well is communication from you. Let us know when you have an opportunity in which we might assist you, or an ap-proaching crisis where we can bring resources to bear. Complete periodic polls or the annual survey so that we know your needs and concerns. And finally, if you see a trend or issue approaching, let one of us know. We are always here for you. Consider a few opportunities for starting out the New Year with us:
Please join us at the Chamber’s 99th Annual Banquet sponsored by TimeClock Plus on Thursday, January 29, at the McNease Convention Center from 7:00 to 9 p.m. You will enjoy a fast-paced program highlighting 2014, a bit about plans in 2015, a de-licious meal and cash bar, recognitions of outstanding volunteer support, and enter-tainment provided by the TimeClock Plus Band. Tickets are $45 per person, and re-served tables of ten may be purchased for $500.
On January 20, the 2015 Business Brown Bag luncheon series kicks off at noon with “Tax Preparation for the New Year” featuring CPA Michelle Perkey of Oliver, Rainey & Wojtec. Call the Chamber at 655-4136 to reserve your free space, or order a box lunch for $8 if you wish. Our cosponsors for these luncheons are the ASU Small Business Development Center and the Business Factory. Lastly, please join me in thanking the five outgoing Directors who have just concluded their service on the Chamber Board: Candice Brewer, Binnie Dierschke, Justin Jonas, Greg Simons and Mark Thieman. They have added much in the way of support and creative thinking to your Chamber the past few years.
Thank you for your membership and support in 2015.

The Leadership San Angelo Alumni Association is preparing for the January 27th Junior Lead-ership forum to be held at Angelo State University. About 100 high school sophomores will attend to learn leadership skills and to heighten their awareness of responsible citizenship.
The Alumni Association relies on sponsorships to cover ex-penses for this event in order to make this a free program for these students and to be able to provide college scholarships. If you can help with a financial sponsorship, please contact the following Leadership Alumni Board Member:

Spotlight on San Angelo
2014 was a landmark year for San Angelo as the boom in our economy made state and national news in
multiple publications. The confirmation that we had officially surpassed the 100,000 population mark
placed us in the spotlight and caught the attention of retail and commercial developers, prompting a
flurry of new construction projects that were initiated in 2014, with more to come in early-to-mid 2015.
Last January, San Angelo was ranked 8th of 179 “Best Performing” small cities in the nation based on
job creation and economic growth by the 2013 Milken Institute Best Performing Cities Index.
Forbes Magazine spotlighted San Angelo on three different occasions in 2014 as one of the top 25 best
places to retire in the nation, one of the top 4 best places to retire in Texas, and the #11 ranked “Best
Small Cities for Jobs” in Texas. And in October, San Angelo was ranked the 12th fastest growing city of
516 U.S. cities evaluated for growth during the period 2008-2013 by WalletHub.com, a financial re-
source firm and website.
A testament to these reports is the latest sales tax report released by the Texas Comptroller which
marks 51 straight months of increases. The December report reflected a whopping 20.7% increase over
same month last year, and a year-to-date increase of 11.8%. San Angelo was the standout for this re-
porting period when compared to our benchmark cities. More great things are on the horizon for our
community, so stay tuned for more good news!

Business @ Happy Hour at Business Expo Sponsors The largest Business @ Happy Hour of the year is held at the Business Expo with an estimated 400 people
attending. The event is held at the end of the Expo, and also serves to announce the conclusion of the Expo’s
Silent Auction. During the event, the Chamber will draw again for its monthly cash drawing, and you will
have the opportunity to address the audience to tell them about your business and give away door prizes. This
event can have multiple sponsors at $350 each.
Bag Sponsor All attendees are greeted at the door and given a “Goodie Bag” to collect promotional products and pamphlets
from the exhibitors. This is a mobile marketing opportunity for your business with the approximately 2,000
attendees carrying your logo all over the event AND home! Only one organization will be able to sponsor
this opportunity. A booth near the entrance of the event venue is included in this sponsorship. To take advan-
tage of this exclusive offer, your company will need to provide the bags and $500.
Exhibitor's Lounge Sponsor Almost every manager/owner/employee/decision-maker for the businesses exhibiting at the Business Expo
visits the Exhibitor’s Lounge during the event. By sponsoring this area at $1,000, your business is allowed to
decorate the tables, distribute information, and provide volunteers for the area for one-on-one consulting or
networking.
Grand Prize Giveaway Sponsor All attendees are greeted at the door/Chamber of Commerce booth and asked to register for the grand prize
drawing. The prize is usually a television, laptop, iPad, or some other gadget useful to businesses. With ap-
proximately 2,000 attendees seeing your business name/logo at registration plus special recognition during
drawing giveaway/announcements, this is a great way to market your business! Grand Prize Giveaway spon-
sorship is $500 which goes directly towards the purchase of the grand prize.
