!!!SAVE THE DATE!!! Sunday, January 26 at St. Luke's –
Bishop Robert Barron’s “EUCHARIST Sacred Meal, Sacrifice, Real Presence”. Did you know
more than half of current Catholics do not know the Church’s teaching on the “real presence of
Christ" in the Eucharist? We will have a short viewing of Bishop Barron’s inspiring video series after
8:00 a.m. Mass. All Faith Formation students, parishioners and guests are encouraged to attend.
Refreshments will be provided.
2020 HALL RENOVATION PROJECT St. Luke, Eureka
PROJECT APPROVAL: Bishop Jenky has authorized the Resolution submitted by Fr. Radosevich
and the two parish trustees, Ashley Mahaffey and David Hise, with a few caveats (i.e., pending
Insurance documents, signed contract, etc.). We are working on finalizing and signing a contract
with a general contractor who will use trusted subcontractors who have provided the church with
quality work in past projects.
TIME CONSIDERATIONS: Rather than try to remodel the hall in phases over several years we
have decided to try and have the project completed in approximately six weeks. For this reason, St.
Luke’s Hall will not be available for rental or for funeral dinners once the renovation project has
begun.
FROM APRIL 13, 2020, THROUGH JUNE 30, 2020,
ST. LUKE’S PARISH HALL WILL BE CLOSED.
This time frame spans more than six weeks, but we will need time to remove our treasures from the
hall before the actual renovation work begins and time to re-organize them once the renovation is
completed.
SOME PROJECT CONCEPTS: As was done
upstairs in the nave of the Church and in the
vestibule, the existing 2’x4’ ceiling tiles will be
replaced with 2’x2’ tiles. Lighting will be updated
to LED lights. This update may make the parish
eligible for an Ameren rebate. The walls will be
repainted-the color is yet to be determined. The
accordion-partition system will be replaced with
regular 2x4 constructed walls with observation
glass. This will create the same number of Faith
Formation classrooms
that we currently have. The approximate
interior dimension of each classroom will
measure 14’x14’. This will also provide a
slightly larger Great-Room for parish events. (See Figure 1:
Conceptual Floor Plan.) A long narrow chair closet will be included to store unused stackable chairs.
Figure 1: Conceptual Floor Plan
While keeping the existing ceramic tile in its current configuration, new carpet squares and some
new cabinetry will spruce up the Great-Room. One movable island will be added to the Great-Room.
The traditional set-up and usage of the hall for fundraisers, funeral dinners, and family gatherings
will be maintained. (See Figure 2: 3D View of Great-Room.)

In the kitchen, the current deep fryers, commercial stove, and required fire suppression hood system
will remain. A high-end, residential-grade gas range, with three oven racks, and five-burners (the
same model that is currently in the Salve Regina Newman Center) will be added. We hope to add
some sort of automatic dishwasher. The plan includes keeping the current refrigeration unit and
replacing it sometime in the future with one or more stainless steel units. The existing stainless-steel
table in the kitchen will be fitted with castors to make it movable. A movable island will also be
added. (See Figure #3: 3D View of the Kitchen)

FUNDING: Over the past decade we have saved enough to cover the cost of this renovation. We are
working hard to try and keep the total cost under $117,000.00, which Bishop Jenky has approved.
ADJUSTMENTS THAT MUST BE MADE:
(1) St. Luke’s Faith Formation teachers are asked to begin planning how they can
accommodate this project schedule. Suggested accommodations may include meeting upstairs in
the adult study area in the vestibule of the church, meeting in the multipurpose/confessional space,
meeting on various weeknights, meeting at the Newman Center, or meeting in parishioners’ homes.
(2) Anyone who has loaned or left personal items in St. Luke’s parish hall must remove them
before March 30, 2020. Our plan includes removing everything out of the hall to provide the
general contractor and the subcontractors the maximum available workspace for new product storage
and to help them complete the project safely, easily, on-time, and under budget. In addition, we will
be reducing the amount of “treasures” that we have accumulated by recycling some items, re-gifting
some items to places like the Et-Cetera Shop, or simply disposing of items in the dumpster.
Approval from both trustees will be needed to bring any item(s) back into the hall at the end of this
project.
(3) Should the need arise for a funeral dinner, the parish hall will not be available, as the
kitchen utensils and all the Great-Rooms’ tables and chairs will have been removed. A
different venue would have to be used.
(4) The Ladies Guild Salad Luncheon that normally occurs in April will need to be
rescheduled to accommodate this project.
(5) Anyone who would like to volunteer to help please contact one of the trustees. Anyone
who would like to donate the use of a spare bedroom or finished basement where hall electronics
could be stored safely for the duration of this project should contact the parish office as soon as
possible.
Thank you for your time, effort and concern in this important project.
Issued on the weekend of January 25/26, 2020.
Prayerfully yours in Christ,
Fr. Eugene Radosevich, Pastor
