January 23, 2020 OPEN HOUSE ON SUNDAY! Vol. 17
OPEN HOUSE!
Catholic Schools Week will kick off this Sunday, January 26th
at our 11:15 School Mass (come in
uniform!), followed by our Open House from 12:15 – 2:00 p.m. Come and feel the spirit! See the art
work and student work decorating our halls! Visit your child’s classroom for next year and meet the
teachers!
Our theme this year is LEARN, LEAD, SERVE….SUCCEED! We are so proud of our students, our
teachers and the work they accomplish together to “Learn with enthusiasm, Lead with humility and
Serve with respect…” and we have a proven track record of the success that this formula for education
affords to our students. We do hope that you’ll experience and celebrate the difference that a Catholic
education – that a Saint Mary’s education – makes in the lives of our children!
Please do be sure that your re-enrollment/sibling new enrollment for next year comes in no later than
tomorrow, as we will be opening enrollment and remaining classroom spaces to new students from the
parish and the community! Thank you for choosing Saint Mary School!
CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK
…And the celebration continues ALL WEEK LONG! Please have a look, below, at the planned

CLASSROOM VISITS:
3rd graders practiced their
communication and listening
skills in math class. Together,
students had to discuss how
many shapes could fit within
another shape. They worked
on supporting their opinions
with evidence and learned
that it's ok to disagree with
others, as long as they do it
in a respectful manner.
In ELA, 3rd graders read about K9
officers and their importance within the
community. They had plenty of
questions for Sgt. Jordan, from the Erie
County Sheriff's Office, and his K9
partner, Boy-Boy.
Our 1st graders work (very happily!)
every morning in centers….
4th Grade science made
and used “conductor
detectors”. They went
around the room resting
conductors and
insulators. If they were a
conductor the motor
would spin.
Here they are
“wearing” their
portable
motors!
Our first grade Makerspace design teams presented their turkey hide-outs and – using the
engineering process – discussed what worked, what didn’t work, what could be done differently,
and how successful their design was.
Our grades 1 & 4 buddies read winter stories and
created “joy-filled” snowflakes to celebrate the
virtue of the month: JOY!
