The construct ion professional is responsib le for theexecution of construction work, for the creation of compleLed pro jects f rom ola^s preoared by design proFes

sionals such as archi tects and engineers. What is to bebui l t ls def ined by deslgn professionals; how the work isto be accomplished is the concern of the constructor. Aconstructor is the master of the construct ion process;master of the process that involves determln lng themethods to be used, and d i rect ing the economical appl icat ion of resources, in the construct ion of t lmely andsafe projects at satisfactory prices, and to the requlredstandards of qual i ty .

The immediate objective of the program is to provldeuniversity level preparation for the managerial positions

The construct ion management component ut i l izesthe functional approach as a framework for study-ing the management o[1he construct ion process.In the indivldual courses, construct ion act iv i t iesare analyzed from a managerial v iewpoint and thefunct ions of management are stressed.

Courses in business administration, the supportingfield, form the third component and reinforce theprogram's management emphasis. Furthermore,completing the Business Administration minorrequirements can satlsry many core requirements ofthe graduate program in Business Administrat ionat sacramento state.

Overal l , the curr iculum provides the balanced contentthat is essential to the success of construction profes-sionals. This unique program is ful ly accredited by theAmerican Counci l for Construct lon Educat ion (ACCE).

The Construct ion Management faculty has expert ise inthe major areas o[construct ion management, which areengineering, business, law, construct ion mater ials andprocesses, and project management.

Students generally come into our program as transfersfrom junior college; however, with appropriate prepara-tion (trigonometry, chemistry, and mechanical drawlng)students may enter the program directly from high school.Upon admlttance to the CM program, studenrs receivepersonallzed attention from the full-time CM faculty mem-bers throughout their academlc careers at SacramentoState. Significant scholarship opportunities are available toconstruction management students, who typically work

part time in the lndustry. Many are active in the Construc-tion Management Student Association (CMSA). One ofthe highlights of CMSA's activities is a 3-day regional andnational estimating competition in which more than100 student teams from the U.S. compete for the topthree places in Design/Build, Heavy/Highway, Residential,Commercial Building, Pre construction, Mechanical, andElectrical construction, using actual projects presentedand evaluated by industry representatives. Participation inthe Construction Management Student Association alsoprovides other opportunities to interact with professionalconstructlon managers. All of the graduates find full-t ime employment - usual ly pr ior to graduat ion * in the545,000-570,000 per year range.
