Rotary Membership
by P.K. Chan
Rotary District Membership Chair-Elect Hans Doge calls on all Rotarians to acknowledge recruiting new
members as a priority for the new Rotary Year.
Rotarian Hans Doge made a heartfelt appeal to all Rotarians to bring in new blood for the clubs. Only
8 out of 53 clubs in the District have shown growth in membership in the current year. New members
and new ideas are needed to reverse this declining trend, which is very much attributed to a generally
aging membership among the clubs. Every member has the responsibility to bring in new members.
Consistency - "one bite at a time" is what is needed for the clubs to continue to grow.

From Central to North
by Li, Quentin
Rtn. Quentin had attended two more Rotary Club meetings before he left Taiwan to China this
week.
On Jun. 11 2007 Rtn. Quentin joined the regular meeting at Rotary Club of Tsaotun Central,
which is in District 3460. His uncle was 2000 ~ 2002 club president. It's a wonderful experience to
visit the club that he has known most of the members since he was a kid. Tsaotun is Quentin's
hometown.
Next day, Jun 12 2007, Rtn. Sport from Rotary Club of Taoyuan Bailing at District 3500 invited Quentin to attend
his club meeting. It's very special that their venue is on the 23rd floor of a hospital. Quentin did learn a lot from their
future projects report and earn lots of friendships there. After meeting, CP Peace; President Grinder and lots of
Rotarians from RC of Taoyuan Bailing took Quentin for a very delicious seafood night meal. Wow, what a delightful
evening.
Rtn. Quentin had attended four Rotary clubs' meetings during the two-weeks stay at Taiwan. Rotarians in Taiwan
always gave Quentin the warmest welcome.
Quentin would like to thank all the friends in those clubs for their touch-heart greetings.
THANK YOU!

by P.K. Chan
The last club assembly for the Rotary Year 2006~2007 held on Jun 5th was attended by Assistant

Assistant Governor-Elect John Vokes threw in a lot of useful advices as President-Elect Kenneth Liu
reviewed his objectives and plans for the new Rotary Year 2007~2008. Issues relating to
attendance, new members, speakers, member contributions, and public relations have invited very
interesting discussions.
Thanks to exiting President Wells Hsu's leadership, a healthy reserve fund has been left to the Club for the New Rotary
Year. However, members are reminded of the following payments due July 1, 2007: - $200 Membership Fee - $100
Installation Night Dinner for Two Please make payment to Treasurer-Elect PK Chan and if you are writing a cheque,

Fund Raising for BC Children Hospital
by P.K. Chan
Raymond Li and Cecilia Liu from the Charity Fund of the Children Hospital called on Rotarians to
open their wallets for good causes.
Before Raymond Li made his presentation on May 29, 2007 about the history of the Children
Hospital Charity Fund, it was probably unbeknown to most of us that our hospital health system
has no budget for researches and developments. Researchers have been funded by donations,
results of the effort of many donors and volunteers working for the good causes.
The Hospital's objective is to bring more smiles to children. Cecilia Liu gave a first hand experience on how the
Hospital helped her stay together with her loving daughter, Cameron, for eighteen months. The time might be too
short for most people, but for Cameron, who suffered from the "Bubble Boy" desease, and Cecilia, they are very
thankful for the effort of the staff of the Children Hospital. Average life of a "Bubble Boy" is a year.
