New Orlean’s Blue Dogs

“We're on the same plane. That dog is asking, who am I, who are you, what are we doing here, what is life about? We look at it, and we ask the dog the same questions. It's a mirror image. We are both seeking the same answers.”

Why is Blue Dog Blue?

George Rodrique answered this question himself in a delightful book called Why is Blue Dog Blue?

"Rodrigue answers the title question by explaining that Blue Dog's color depends on what the artist is doing: when Rodrigue goes fishing, he paints the dog a salmon color; when Rodrigue wants a hot dog, he paints the dog mustard yellow, and so on. . . . young Blue Dog fans will enjoy seeing their favorite pup dressed in different colors, and Rodrigue's liberating reminder that "Artists don't have to paint things the way they really are . . . "

Artists everywhere were turning to their own family backgrounds for subject matter.
