My Project Car: BMW E28 535iS

Before leaving for college, I took what money I had and bought two BMW’s I found in a barn in Maine. One from 1987, the other from ‘88, and managed to get one working car. I don’t believe there is a better way to learn more, about a material object, or yourself than to get your hands dirty and break through each problem you find.

I no longer have the Bimmer, but it did make the 500 mile trip between RIT and Maine many times, always delivering me in one piece.

We don’t mess around..The RIT FSAE racing team took up virtually all of my time outside of school for my first three years here. It offered a chance to do the type of high level engineering design that most students will rarely, if ever, see while performing their regular classwork.My lack of projects by numbers should not be mistaken for lack of knowledge or effort, my extracurricular happened to require a commitment that made it impractical to diversify my free time. Sometimes I wish I saw more of other clubs, but I would do it the same way given another chance. The experience with real world application of the knowledge that is taught in the classroom is unparalleled by any other I’ve had since becoming interested in engineering.
