Right Livelihood Business
Right Livelihood:Earning money in a way that follows Buddhist principles
What makes a successful business?
What things does a successful business do?
• You are bidding against other teams for a grant to start a business; the money is coming from a Buddhist organisation and so you need a good idea based on ‘right livelihood’ principles, as well as other Buddhist and business ideas.
• You need to put together a presentation about your proposed business, which you will present to the judging panel. Your presentation should last for 5 minutes.
• The Chair of the judging panel will ask individuals from each team questions about the proposal, so you all need to be fully prepared. The questions will include:– Tell me about a Buddhist teaching that your business tries to follow
(different group members will be asked about different teachings).– Tell me how the business does this.– Tell me what you think is good about the way a Buddhist business is
run.– Tell me what you think might be difficult about the way a Buddhist
business is run.– Tell me what would be good about working for your business.– Tell me whether you think that the people involved in your business
would be happy about the way your business is run.
• You should think about these questions in your groups, but not prepare answers to read out.
