Relieving Principal’s Report
Welcome Back to Term 4
I trust that everyone has had an enjoyable and refreshing break over the holidays and is
ready for a productive and successful Term 4. We start this term with year groups going
off to various venues for their reward excursions. These events are to acknowledge the
good behaviour and work of students over the last term. For those students who missed
out on these excursions, I would urge you not to give up, but to set a goal for next year
that you will strive to work and behave well, wear your uniform, and attempt to achieve
your best in all you do.
Science and Engineering Challenge
Once again our Year 9/10 Science and Engineering Challenge Team has been successful under
the able leadership of Mrs Templeton and Mr Allen. After winning the regional final at Southern
Cross University against a strong field of local schools, the team travelled to Queensland at
the end of last term and managed a very creditable 4th overall, whilst winning two of the chal-
lenges outright. This has now qualified the team for the National Championships, to be held in
Sydney in Week 2 of this term. We congratulate this team on their outstanding success, which inspires all
students to challenge themselves to be involved in all opportunities that come their way and to do their
best. You never know where it may lead!
Year 12 Farewell Assembly
On the last Thursday of Term 3, we farewelled Year 12 students at a fitting and
impressive assembly. The completion of high school is a significant achievement
for these students and their families. It was great to have Professor Peter Lee,
Vice Chancellor of Southern Cross University, to deliver the guest speaker‟s ad-
dress. We thank him for his contribution and for the attendance of Ms Helen
Hughes, SCU Director of Corporate and Community Relations. It was very gratify-
ing to see such a large number of parents, carers and family in attendance to help
2
Year 12 celebrate this milestone in their lives. We trust Year 12 students will be well rested and thor-
oughly prepared for their HSC, starting on Thursday October 14. Once again this year, the exams will be
held in H-Block at Southern Cross University. We wish all Year 12 the best of luck in their exams.
We also congratulate the Captains-elect for 2011, announced by the outgoing Captains during the assem-
bly. They are : Captains Zac Morris and Amelia Wright and Vice-Captains Nick Franklin and Sarah Wykes.
We wish them well in these roles in 2011. We also congratulate the Sportsmen and Sportswomen of the
Year, also announced at the assembly: Brenton Parrish and Bryce Devlin (tied) and Kellie Guest. Con-
gratulations on their outstanding performances.
Year 10 School Certificate
Year 10 students have their School Certificate trial exams in this first week of Term 4. These exams are
great practice for the actual School Certificate exams, to be held in Week 5 of term. We trust that Year 10
are well prepared for these exams and have organised a systematic study program to ensure they per-
form at their best.
Thank you to all Staff and Students
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all staff and students for the support they have shown me in
many ways during the time I have been relieving principal. It is really too hard to single individual people
out, but I must especially mention school administration manager, Mrs Bennett and her front office staff,
Lisa Read, my Deputy Principals for their amazing support and service to our students and the profes-
sional executive team. The support and help from everyone has been greatly appreciated.
We welcome back Mr Campbell as Principal from the start of term and trust that his time as Relieving Di-
rector in the Taree area has been rewarding and satisfying.

Subject: Congratulations to your Year 9 Human Movement students Dear Mr Campbell (Principal),
In time when schools are often bombarded by stories of misbehaviour of young people, I think that your
whole school community should be recognised for the good work that you are doing.
I would like to congratulate you, your staff, your school and students for developing fine citizens of the
future.
Last Friday I attended the North Coast Area PSSA Athletics Carnival that was conducted Riverview Park
Lismore. I was assigned to officiate at the high jump for the day.
I was fortunate to have two students from the Year 9 Human Movement course to assist me for the day.
These young gentlemen introduced themselves as Ben Sharkey and Ryan Blanch and were excellent am-
bassadors for your school. They were polite, informative, focused on their role, compassionate, caring and
encouraging to our young competitors, willing to learn new skills and displayed initiative to ensure the
safe conduct of our three events over the course of the four hours of competition.
I am new to the area and found these two students an invaluable asset in helping me conduct the high
jump events, a feat I considered even more admirable as neither of them nominated Athletics as their
sport of preference or expertise. I have over 30 years experience in assisting at PSSA carnivals and would
rate Ben and Ryan among the best student helpers that have assisted me in that time.
Please convey my personal appreciation to your PE staff and the students for helping our carnival run so
smoothly. I would highly recommend them for future duties working at any events conducted by the
PSSA.
Ben and Ryan were just two of a large group of students assisting at the Carnival and I am sure that
Jenny Warren, North Coast Area Sports Organiser, would have received similar positive comments from
the other officials.
Regards,
Dennis
