Abstract

You will begin with something like this.

You will possibly end up with something like this.

There will be four steps in between the first picture and the last picture.

Realism Abstraction

What paintings will you put between these so that there is a gradual progression from realistic to abstract?

What About Composition?

In the visual arts, in particular, painting, graphic design, photography, and sculpture composition is the plan, placement or arrangement of elements or ingredients in an art work. The selection and placement of elements within the work contributes to a response from the viewer, the work of art is said to be aesthetically pleasing to the eye if the elements within the work are arranged in a balanced compositional way (Dunstan, 1979).

Basically the term composition means 'putting together‘. The various elements in the overall design usually relate to each other and to the whole art work (Dunstan, p. 7, 1979). There are fundamentally two types of composition: informal, and the less frequently found formal or symmetrical.

When Alma’ch created this artwork he decided to show the oranges close up, and falling off the edge of the paper. He also decided to cut one of the oranges in half.

Steps to Create Your Artwork

Think about how you could abstract it.4.Think about the steps in between.5.Draw and shade your object in your sketch book.6.Sketch out all six steps.7.Practice watercolor and ink techniques.8.Begin lightly drawing all of the steps on the final paper. 9.Add paint and ink.10.Matt all six artworks and tape together.
