The Man, The Legend, The Friar!

Gregor Mendel (1822-1884)

Key ConceptsAlleles: Different VERSIONS of a gene.

(Examples: hair color, eye color)

Dominant versus recessive alleles(A and a)

Genotype versus Phenotype

Major Accomplishments

Known as the “Father of Genetics,” for his work with pea plants.

Mendel demonstrated that the inheritance of certain traits in pea plants follows particular patterns.

Demonstrated that particular phenotypes had certain genotypes behind them and with that information you could predict the traits of the offspring.

What did he do?

Overnight Fame!

How did he do it?

Another Pretty Cool Scientist.

Practical Use
