To ask how old someone is…

Say “Quel âge as-tu?” when speaking to someone you know, or someone your age (INFORMAL)

Say “Quel âge avez-vous?” when speaking to an adult (e.g. teacher) or someone you don’t know (FORMAL)

To respond with your age…

Say “J’ai # ans”.

Par exemple: J’ai treize ans I am thirteen years old

J’ai quinze ans I am fifteen years old

To inquire about someone else’s age…

You would ask a boy: Quel âge a-t-il? How old is he?

You would ask a girl: Quel âge a-t-elle? How old is she?

The “il” and “elle” determines if you’re referring to a boy or a girl
