Blood Donation Camps
1. Arignar Anna Govt. Arts College, Musiri, Trichy district
The NSS unit-III of Arignar Anna Govt. Arts College, Musiri, Trichy
district organised a blood donation camp on 31.12.2015. Dr. Kolochi,
Principal of the college presided over the programme. Dr. A. Shanthi, Blood
bank medical officer of Manapparai Govt. Hospital spoke about the
importance of blood donation. Mr. C. Muruganandham, Asst. Manager,
HDFC Bank offered felicitations. Earlier, Dr. S.K. Sivakumar, NSS
Programme Officer of Unit-III welcomed the gathering. About 50 NSS
Volunteers donated blood.

2. Sri Sankara Arts & Science College, Kumbakonam The NSS units of Sri Sankara Arts & Science College, Kumbakonam
organised a blood group identification and blood donation programme in the
college campus. Dr. C. Thamilselvam, principal of the college inaugurated
the camp. Dr. Anbalagan, Kumbakonam Govt. Hospital organised the
programme. Blood group identification was done for all the students of the
college. Later blood donation was done by the students and staff of the
college.
3. BDU Constituent College for Women, Orathanadu
The NSS units of Bharathidasan University Constituent College for
Women, Orathanadu, Thanjavur dt organised a blood donation programme
on 06.01.2016. Dr. K. Manoharan, Principal of the college inaugurated the
programme in the college campus. The NSS Programme Officers, Mrs. M.
Elampirai, Mrs. M. Kartika and Mrs. N. Gejeswari organised the programme
along with Dr. Sharmila, Medical Officer, Govt. Hospital, Orathanadu. About
58 volunteers donated 58 units of blood to Raja Mirasudar Govt. Hospital,
Thanjavur. Blood was taken by Dr. Vijayasundari.

4. TBML College, Porayar, Nagapattinam district
TBML College, Porayar, Nagapattinam district organised a blood
donation camp in the college campus. The NSS and YRC jointly organized
the camp on 06.02.2016. Principal of the college inaugurated the camp.
Kaali Blood Bank of Tanjore collected the blood from the donors. About 46
units were collected from the students. Free blood sugar testing was done
for the staff members. Mr. J. Selvaraj, NSS PO and Dr. G.V. Pandian, YRC
PO organised the camp.
5. SKSS Arts College, Thiruppanandal
The NSS units of SKSS Arts College, Thiruppanandal, Thanjavur dt
organised a blood donation camp in association with the Kumbakonam Govt.
hospital on 04.12.2015 in the college campus. About 76 units of blood were
donated to the blood bank and blood group identification was done for more
than 200 students on the same day.

6. Inauguration of ICTC at Annavasal, Pudukkottai dt
The Integrated Counselling and Testing Centre (ICTC) was inaugurated
at the Annavasal GH, Pudukkkottai district on 31.01.2016 by the
Honourable Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of Tamil Nadu, Dr.
C. Vijayabaskar. About 26 NSS Volunteers donated blood during the
inauguration programme. Dr. A. Lakshmi Prabha, NSS Coordinator of
Bharathidasan University was also present on the occasion.

7. Mother Terasa College of Arts & Science, Illuppur, Pudukkottai Dt (SFU)
The NSS units of Mother Terasa College of Arts & Science (SFU),
Illuppur, Pudukkottai dt organised a blood donation bank on 01.02.2016 in
the college campus. Honourable Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Govt.
of Tamil Nadu, Dr. C. Vijayabaskar was the chief guest for the camp.
Around 100 Volunteers donated blood to the Pudukkottai Govt. blood bank.
The minister presented the certificates to the donors.
8. BDU Constituent College, Lalagudi
The NSS units of Bharathidasan University Constituent College,
Lalgudi, Trichy district organised a blood donation camp in association with
Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Govt. Hospital Trichy on 20.01.2016. Dr. V.P.
Thangavelu, Principal of the college inaugurated the camp by delivering the
presidential address. Dr. R. Jaisankar, NSS Programme Officer of the college
and 16 members team lead by Medical Officer, Shri. Sai Sridevi Krishnan
organised the blood donation camp. About 87 volunteers donated blood
during the camp.

9. BDU Model College, Vedaranyam
The NSS units of Bharathidasan University Model College,
Vedaranyam in association with Leo Club organised a blood donation camp
in the college campus. About 102 units of blood to the blood banks of
Thanjavur and Kumbakonam.
Dengue Awareness Programmes 1. Sri Saradha College for Women, Perambalur
The NSS units of Sri Saradha College for Women, Perambalur
organised an awareness programme on Dengue fever for the College
students. Mr. M. Sivasubramanian, Chairman, Sri Ramakrishna
educational institutions, Mr. M.S. Vivekanandan, Secretary and Mrs. S.A.

Kannagi, Principal of the college urged the students to keep their
environment neat and clean. Later 55 NSS Volunteers cleaned the college
campus. NSS Programme Officers, Mrs. C.P. Kala and Ms. N. Deepa
organised the programme.
2. Sri Sankara Arts & Science College, Kumbakonam The NSS units of Sri Sankara Arts & Science College, Kumbakonam
organised a dengue awareness programme in the college campus. Dr. C.
Thamilselvam, Principal of the college explained the causes of the Dengue
fever. Later the NSS Volunteers cleaned the college campus by removing the
polythene bags and the waste articles.
Sanitation Maintenance Programme for Women
The NSS units of Rajagiri Dawood Batcha College of Arts & Science,
Papanasam, Thanjavur Dt organised a awareness programme on sanitation
maintenance for women students of the college. Dr. R. Thilaga, NSS
Programme Officer welcomed the gathering. Dr. M. Arunachalam, Director,
RDB Group of Institutions presided over the programme. Mrs. K. Sarojini
and Mrs. S. Umas, Social activists spoke about the sanitation maintenance

of women students. Dr. M. Mohammed Siddique, Principal of the college,
Mrs. C. Thangamalar, Vice-Principal, Prof. M. Kamaroon Nihar, Vice-

proposed the Vote of Thanks. All the women students of the college
participated in the programme.

Eye Screening Camps
1. NSS Cell, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli
The NSS Cell of Bharathidasan University organised an eye screening
camp for the university staff members and students in the university
campus on 29.01.2016. The medical team from Joseph Eye hospital, Trichy
conducted the eye screening camp. Around 300 staff members and 250
students studying in the university campus are benefitted by the camp.

2. Imayam College of Arts & Science, Thuraiyur, Trichy dt
The NSS units of Imayam College of Arts & Science, Thuraiyur, Trichy
dt organised an eye screening camp on 08.01.2016 in association with the
Mahatma Eye Hospital and Research Centre, Trichy in the college campus.
The Chairman of the Imayam group of institutions, Mr. Periyannan
inaugurated the camp in the presence of Vice-Chairman, Sivakumar,
Principal of the college, Dr. S. Banumathi. Around 1000 students of the
college benefitted from the camp. The NSS Programme Officers, Mr. Kannan,
Mr. S. Ramachandran and Ms. Vijayalakshmi organised the programme.
3. RDB College of Arts & Science, Papanasam, Thanjavur dt
The NSS units of Rajagiri Dawood Batcha College of Arts & Science,
Papanasam in association with Lions Club and Agarwal Eye hospital
organised an eye screening camp for the college students. Dr. M.
Arunachalam, Director of RDB institutions presided over and inaugurated
the programme in the presence of Mr. G. Saravanan, Lions Club, Mr. Balaji
& Mr. Ibrahim, Technicians, Agarwal Eye Hospital, Ms. Ramyapathi & Ms.

Training Programme on Human Rights
The Training and Placement Cell of Periyar E.V.R. College, Trichy
organised a “One Day Basic Training Programme on Human Rights” on
06.01.2016 in the college campus for the college students. Dr. J. Manjula,
Principal of the college delivered the presidential address while Dr. J. Vincent
Comraj, Principal, Govt. Law College, Trichy inaugurated the training
programme. Dr. A. Lakshmi Prabha, NSS Coordinator of Bharathidasan
University delivered a special lecture on “Rights of Women and Children”.
She explained the basic rights of women and children in India. She also
listed out the successful women in the Indian society such as Kiran Bedi,
Fathima Beevi, Karnam Malleswari, Kalpana Chawla, etc. Mr. M.
Parthasarathi, Sub Judge and Coordinator, District legal Services Authority,
Trichy distributed the certificates to the students.

1. NSS Cell, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli
The NSS Cell of Bharathidasan University in association with the
Trichy district administration organised an awareness rally on 25.01.2016 in
view of the National Voter’s Day. Mr. Sanjay Mathur, Commissioner of
Police, Trichy city flagged off the rally in the presence of Mr. K.S. Palanisamy,
Collector, Trichy, Dr. A. Lakshmi Prabha, NSS Coordinator, Bharathidasan
University, Mr. Sridhar, Election Thasildar and others. The rally started at

R.C. Higher Secondary School went through Head Post Office, Trichy
Corporation Office, All India Radio Office, District Court and ended at St.
John Vestry Anglo-Indian Higher Secondary School, near Central Bus Stand,
Trichy. Around 1000 NSS Volunteers from various colleges participated in
the rally.

Signature Campaign on Voter’s Awareness
The NSS Cell of Bharathidasan University organised a signature
campaign in the university campus to create awareness about voting among
the university students on 24.03.2016. Dr. A. Lakshmi Prabha, NSS
Programme Coordinator inaugurated the campaign and explained the
importance of casting the vote in the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly
Elections. Various Faculty members of the university departments and the
students participated in the signature campaign eagerly.

2. A.D.M College for Women, Nagapattinam
The NSS units of A.D.M College for Women, Nagapattinam organised a
Voter’s awareness Program on 12th January 2016 in the adopted village,
Anthanapettai of Nagapattinam District. About 30 NSS Volunteers
participated in the one day program. The morning session was started with
the cleaning work of NSS Volunteers around the village and temple. The
programme was initiated by the village president, Mr. Sait alias Hajee
Alavuddin.
During the afternoon session the Volunteers conducted a play drama
and cultural activities to insist the awareness of voting rights to the village
people. Finally the public and the Volunteers took a pledge to Vote. The
Programme was organised by NSS Programme Officers, Dr. C.J. Pricilla and
Mrs. G. Anbarasi.
3. TBML College, Porayar
The NSS units of TBML College, Porayar organised a Voter’s awareness
signature campaign to promote the awareness among the college students on
30th March 2016. The main purpose of the programme is creating awareness
among the new voters to confirm the 100% polling in the upcoming Tamil
Nadu Assembly Elections. About 1200 new voters signed in this campaign.
Dr. Jonas Gunasekaran, Principal of the college gave introductory speech
and signed first. Mr. Mohan, Taluk Election Tahsildar also participated in
this event. Mr. J. Selvaraj, Mr. Xavier Selvakumar and Ms. Gowry Anand
NSS Programme Officers organised the programme.

4. Govt. Arts College, Ariyalur
The NSS units of Govt. Arts College, Ariyalur organised a Voter’s
Awareness rally on 22.01.2016 in view of the National Voter’s Day. Mr.
Chandrasekar, Sub-Collector flagged off the rally in the college campus. The
rally passed through Sendurai Road, Anna Statue and ended at Taluk office.
Around 3000 students including the NSS Volunteers participated in the
rally. The rally was organised by Dr. V. Karunakaran and Dr. V. Selvaraj,
NSS Programme Officer of the College under the guidance of the Principal,
Dr. M.M. Sendhamil Selvi.

6. Holy Cross College, Trichy
The NSS units of Holy Cross College, Trichy organised an awareness
programme on “National Voters Day” on 25.01.2016. Mrs. I. Ruby Merlin,
Assistant Professor of English, Holy Cross College was the chief guest for the
programme. She spoke on the role of election commission in conducting the
election in India. The chief guest also explained the rules and regulations of
voting in forthcoming elections and emphasized how to select a good leader
in a democratic country through a short story. The NSS volunteers took the
National Voters Day pledge. Mrs. Ruby Merlin distributed the prizes to the
winners of Poetry writing & Essay writing Competition conducted in view of
the Voter’s Day.
Smokeless Bogi Awareness Programme
The NSS Cell of Bharathidasan University in association with the
Tamil Nadu Asthma and Allergy Research Foundation (TAARF) organised an
awareness Programme on Smokeless Bogi on 12.01.2016 on the eve of
Pongal celebrations. Dr. G. Kamal, Director, TAARF spoke on the ill effects
caused by the smoke during the Bogi festival. Dr. S. Sivaramakrishnan,
Syndicate Member of Bharathidasan University insisted the importance of
saving the nature and good environment for future generation. Mrs.
Jothimani Ilangovan, Assistant Station Director, All India Radio, Trichy gave
a special address on the topic. Dr. A. Lakshmi Prabha, NSS Coordinator of
Bharathidasan University proposed the Vote of Thanks. Earlier Dr. N.
Murugeswari, Publication Officer of Bharathidasan University welcomed the

gathering. About 150 NSS Volunteers from various colleges in the Trichy
city participated in the programme.
All the participants were administered the oath to celebrate the bogi
festival without smoke and spread the message to the neighbours.

First Aid Training Programme
The NSS units of T.B.M.L. College, Porayar, Nagapattinam district
organised a First Aid Training Programme for the NSS Volunteers to
commemorate the National Youth Day. The training was given by St. John
Ambulance, Nagapattinam district. Dr. G.V. Pandiyan, the district instructor
gave the training by theoretically, orally and practically with the support of
powerpoint presentation. Around 120 Volunteers participated in the
programme. The NSS Programme Officers, Dr. Xavier Selvakumar, Mr. J.
Selvaraj and Ms. Gowri Anand organised the programme.

Road Safety Awareness Programmes
1. Govt. Arts College, Ariyalur
The NSS units of Govt. Arts College, Ariyalur in association with Youth
Red Cross, Red Ribbon Club and Ariyalur Red Cross Society organised a

Road Safety Awareness rally in view of the 27th Road safety week. Dr.
Senthamizh Selvi, Principal of the college flagged off the rally at Anna Statue
near the Ariyalur Bus Stand. The rally passed through Chathiram and
ended at Union Office. The rally was organised by the NSS Programme
Officers, Dr. V. Karunakaran, Mr. V. Selvaraj and Ms. P. Selvamani along
with Dr. R. Stephen, YRC district coordinator, Dr. S. Jeyakumar, RRC
Programme Officer, Mr. R. Baskaran, Ariyalur district secretary, Indian Red
Cross Society, Mr. A. Nallappan, District president, Indian Red Cross
Society. Mr. P. Raveendran, District Revenue Officer, Mr. N. Marimuthu,
Chief Education Officer and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
Around 800 students participated in the rally. They carried the placards.
2. Holy Cross College, Trichy
The NSS units of Holy Cross College, Trichy organised an awareness
programme on “Road Safety” in association with Atlas Hospitals, Trichy.
About 100 NSS volunteers attended the programme in which Smt. R.
Jeyanthi, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime & Traffic), Trichy city was
the chief guest. Dr. S. J. Jaikish, MD, Atlas Hospitals, Trichy spoke on the
causes of accidents among youth. He also emphasized that all must follow
the rules and regulations implemented by the government regarding road
safety. Later an awareness rally was organised involving the NSS
Volunteers.

National Republic Day Parade Camp
M.H. Sheik Asif (III B.Com.), Jamal Mohamed College, S.
Dheenathayalan (II B.Sc.), Bishop Heber College and B. Shankari (II B.A.),
K.N. Govt. Arts College for Women were selected and participated in the
prestigious National Republic Day Parade Camp held at New Delhi from 1st to
31st January 2016.

State Republic Day Parade Camp
A. Mathan Raj (III B.Sc.), S. Saravanan (III B.Sc.), St. Joseph College,
R. Radhika (III B.Sc.), Holy Cross College and S. Oviya (II B.Sc.), Jamal
Mohamed College participated in the Tamil Nadu State Republic Day Parade
Camp held at Chennai from 17.01.2016 to 26.01.2016.
Discussions with BHEL, Thirumayam for the Supply of Incinerators
The NSS WISH (Women Involved in Sanitation & Hygiene) forum of
Bharathidasan University is providing the Electrical Sanitary Napkin
Incinerators to the Educational Institutions with the financial support of
BHEL, Trichy for the past two years. Two phases were completed
successfully by providing 85 incinerators to the Schools and Colleges.
Meanwhile, the BHEL, Thirumayam has also requested to provide
incinerators in Thirumayam and Pudukkottai. The NSS Coordinator and
WISH Organising Secretary, Dr. A. Lakshmi Prabha had discussions with
Mr. Michael Raj, Senior Manager (HR), BHEL, Thirumayam and Mr. Pankaj
Solanki, Senior Executive (HR), BHEL, Thirumayam on 04.02.2016. Later

Coordinators’ Meeting at Chennai
The NSS Programme Coordinator of Bharathidasan University, Dr. A.
Lakshmi Prabha attended the NSS Programme Coordinators meeting at
Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai on 09.02.2016. Honourable Minister
for Youth Welfare & Sports Development, Govt. of Tamil Nadu, Dr. S.
Sundararaj presented the NSS Regular Grant and NSS Special Camping
Grant to the NSS Programme Coordinators for the year 2015-16 on the
occasion.
Career Guidance Programme
The NSS units of Govt. Arts College, Ariyalur in association with
Ariyalur District Employment Exchange organised an one day programme on
Career Guidance on 09.02.2016 for the college students. Mr. S. Vinoth,
District Employment Officer, Karur detailed the employment opportunities in
Union Public Service Commission and Tamil Nadu Public Service
Commission and explained about preparation for the examinations. Mr. S.
Fazal Ali, General Manager, District Employment Centre, Ariyalur explained
about self employment and getting loans from the banks to start self
employment.

Awareness rally against Illicit Liquor
The NSS Cell of Bharathidasan University in association with the
prohibition and enforcement of alcohol wing of Trichy city police organised
an awareness rally on “Prevention of Illicit Liquor”. The rally was flagged off

The Hindu (Tamil) Dinakaran
Mahamaham 2016
The famous Mahamaham, which was celebrated once in 12 years, was
celebrated in Kumbakonam during February 2016. Lakhs of pilgrims from
all over the country visited Kumbakonam to take bath in the holy pool. The
NSS Volunteers from various colleges located in Kumbakonam helped the
Police men and the Municipality authorities in controlling and streamlining
the pilgrims. The volunteers also made sure that plastic items were not
carried into the holy pool.

Awareness Programme on Good Health
The NSS unit of Bharathidasan University Constituent College for
Women, Veppur, Perambalur district organised an awareness programme on
good health on 17.02.2016 in the college campus. Dr. Ayesha Kalam from
Primary Health Centre, Kunnam was the chief guest for the programme.
Visit to the Adopted Village
The NSS units of Annai Vailankanni Arts & Science College (SFU),
Thanjavur selected the “Thulukkanpatti” village for doing the NSS Activities
of their Boys unit (Unit I). The Volunteers along with the Programme Officer,
Mr. J. Selvam visited the village and met the important persons of the village
on 18.02.2016. The NSS team visited the Municipal school in the village and
met Mr. Dhavamani, Co-operative Bank Councillor, Mrs. Parvathi, Head
Mistress of the Municipal school. The school children performed Yoga and
Dance followed by the NSS student’s motivational speech.

Tree Plantation and Distribution Programme
The NSS Cell of Bharathidasan University organised a tree plantation
and distribution programme on 08.03.2016 in view of the International
Women’s Day. Dr. N.D. Srinithi Vihashini, NCC Officer welcomed the
gathering. The Vice-Chancellor of Bharathidasan University, Dr. V.M.
Muthukumar was the chief guest for the programme. He spoke about the
importance of planting and saving the existing trees. He planted the first
tree sapling. Dr. K. Kumarasamy, Syndicate Member of Bharathidasan
University offered felicitations. Dr. A. Lakshmi Prabha, NSS Programme
Coordinator proposed the Vote of Thanks.
Around 200 NSS Volunteers and 20 NSS Programme Officers from
Trichy district participated in the programme. The Vice-Chancellor
presented a sapling to each college during the programme. Bharathidasan
University has set a target of planting 1 lakh tree saplings through the NSS
functioning colleges in the university’s jurisdiction.

Women’s Day Programme
The NSS units of Khadir Mohideen College, Adhirampattinam
organised a programme on 08.03.2016 in view of the International Women’s
Day. Vice-Principal of the College, Dr. A.M. Udhuman Mohideen presided
over the programme. Mrs. M. Ashiya Tara, Tamil Professor from Cauvery
College for Women, Trichy was the chief guest for the programme. She
delivered a motivational speech about the topic “Sky is reachable”. Later she
had an interactive session with the college girls.

Awareness Rally on Eye Donation The NSS Volunteers of Annai Vailankanni Arts & Science College
(SFU), Thanjavur organised an awareness rally on Eye Donation in association with Lions Club and Leo Club. The Rally started from St.
Joseph’s Higher Secondary School and ended at NK Road, near Avin Milk Depot. More than 40 students participated from the college in that Rally. Students from various colleges and schools also attended the same.
Prof.J.Selvam, and Prof. Maria Diana Joseph, NSS Programme Officers arranged the students to participate this Rally.
Signing of Agreement with BHEL
The NSS WISH forum of Bharathidasan University had an agreement
with BHEL, Trichy under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) scheme
for the provision of Electrical Sanitary Napkin Incinerators (ESNIs) to the
Educational institutions in three phases. The first two phases has been
completed successfully by providing 85 incinerators to the identified
educational institutions (schools & colleges). To initiate the third phase an
agreement was signed on 10.03.2016 for the provision of 90 Incinerators to
the educational institutions. Another agreement was signed with BHEL,
Thirumayam for the provision of 6 Incinerators under its CSR Scheme.
The Registrar of Bharathidasan University, Dr. C. Thiruchelvam signed
in the agreement for Bharathidasan University, while Mr. M.S. Michael Raj,
Senior Manager (HR), BHEL, Thirumayam signed in the agreement for BHEL,
Thirumayam and Mr. K. Murali, Additional General Manager (Admn.), BHEL,
Trichy signed for BHEL, Trichy in the presence of Vice-Chancellor of
Bharathidasan University, Dr. V.M. Muthukumar.

Services Day
Kunthavai Nachiyar Govt. Arts College for Women, Thanjavur
organised the services day in the college campus on 25.03.2016 in view of
the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the College. Dr. A. Meenakshi, NSS
Programme Officer of the college gave the welcome address. Dr. Lakshmi,
Principal of the college listed out the services rendered by the NSS
Volunteers of the college. Mr. Subbian, Thanjavur District Collector and Dr.
A. Lakshmi Prabha, NSS Programme Coordinator of Bharathidasan
University were the chief guests for the programme. Prizes and mementoes
were presented to the best performing NSS Volunteers.
