What is QWC?

• QWC is where your ability to write an answer in good English is assessed.

• For the question, you will be able to achieve a total of six marks.

What is Needed in a QWC Question?

• Make sure your handwriting is neat.

• Your spelling, punctuation and grammar are correct.

• You have organised your answer well and have used important Scientific words – not just “it” or “the.”

What Should I Think About To Gain QWC

Marks?• Appropriate capital letters and full stops.

• Use a full range of punctuation throughout your answer, including apostrophes and commas.

• Always use scientific terms that you will have learned in class.

• Write in paragraphs, or use suitable sub-headings to help organise your answer.

Where is QWC Assessed?

• In all GCSE and A Level Science Examinations.

• A question with marks awarded for QWC will say the following;– “In this question you will be assessed on using

good English, organising information clearly and using specialist terms where appropriate.”

• It is clearly indicated – look out for it!

Basic Knowledge: 1-2 Marks

(Grade F) • Your answer shows a simple

understanding.

• Little organisation or scientific detail given.

• Weak punctuation, poor spelling and grammar.

Clear Knowledge: 3-4 Marks

Grade C• Knowledge expressed is accurate, and your

answer shows a clear understanding.

• Structured and organised, with use of some specialist science terms.

• Good level of spelling, punctuation and grammar.

Detailed Knowledge: 5-6 Marks

Grade A• Knowledge expressed is full and accurate, it

is also appropriate to the situation. Your answer shows a detailed understanding, this is supported by evidence given.

• Well organised and logically ordered using a wide range of appropriate scientific terms.

• Excellent spelling, punctuation and grammar.
